Kegel exercise tracker
How did you come up with the idea for this product?
Tania: Despite being a women’s health expert, I had never really thought much about the pelvic floor until I had a baby. My husband is French and it is normal for French women to attend pelvic floor exercise classes after birth. I was shocked to learn that not only do we have nothing like this in the UK, but that 1 in 3 women will feel the effects of a weak pelvic floor.
As I did research and talked to experts, I found that women were buying lots of different products with no evidence that they really worked. The one thing shown to work is giving women real-time biofeedback but until now, this technology has only existed in hospitals. Women need better technology that fits around their busy lives, and Elvie was designed with this in mind.
What makes your product special?
Every aspect of the design is based on feedback from over 150 women. They told us they wanted something discreet that they could use on the go. The result is the world’s smallest exercise tracker for your pelvic floor.
What has been the best part of your startup experience?
Women telling us that this is exactly what they have been waiting for. We’ve had an incredibly positive reaction to our launch, from reviews in Elle, TechCrunch and Forbes, to winning two awards, but it’s the the reaction from our first customers that is most important to us. It’s great to know that we are addressing a real need.
