Was she as devoted a caregiver as Linda Thompson was in the beginning? The general consensus seems to be that she wasn't, but her role wasn't caregiver/round the clock nurse. I don't think Ginger was nearly the extravagant spender that Linda was, either. They are two different personalities, and obviously Elvis saw good qualities in each of them. Ginger does not resort to bad-mouthing anyone, although it would be easy for her to be bitter over the things that have been written about her. Hers is a very tastefully written book.
As for the deal about her mother's house, I don't blame them for trying to get the estate to honor Elvis' promises about that. Elvis thought the house had already been taken care of. I believe he intended to pay for it, because that is very consistent with his actions with others all throughout his lifetime. He bought houses for many people--girlfriends, relatives, employees. Vernon was wrong not to honor Elvis' wishes. (Vernon was wrong about a lot of things. One of the worst was letting Priscilla con him into leaving her in charge of the estate. Elvis never intended that and had made provisions for a bank to handle things if Vernon wasn't around. But I digress.) Ginger could no doubt have had a lot more of Elvis' money if she had tried. I hope she makes a lot of money from this book; everyone else has, years ago!
By the way, I couldn't help but notice that she did indeed look like a young Gladys Presley, like Elvis said, also, she looks a lot like Priscilla.
