About the Author
Robert Moulthrop, an award-winning playwright and author, lives and works in New York City. In 2005 Robert Moulthrop received the New York International Fringe Festival’s Outstanding Playwriting Award for his full-length play, Half Life, about what happens to a family and community when dad—a convicted pedophile—comes home from prison. A second play, T. L. C., garnered the 2006 Fringe Outstanding Performance award for the tour de force 80-minute solo turn by its actress. In 2007, nytheatre.com called his Fringe play Lecture, With Cello “a tantalizing puzzle of a play … a remarkable feast for the intellect, brimming with ideas that help us look at what we take for granted in art in new and compelling ways.” In 2008, his play Who Cares was featured in the Urban Stages First Look reading series; in 2010, his play Just Deceits (co-authored with Michael Schein) received a reading under the aegis of Seattle’s ACT theatre. His public readings include a solo performance at the 2009 Phoenix International Fringe Festival – 17 x 5 x 4: Blood, Death, Drag & Mom – five performance readings of 17 original stories over four days, a recent appearance (reading Zip Code and Elvis’s Dog…) with performance artist Clare Porter at New York’s Medicine Show, and readings with The Writers’ Room. His short story collection Grace was selected for publication by Wordrunner’s e-Chapbook in March 2011. His story Blood on the Floor was a 2011 prize winner, published by the Cartaret Writers Association in July in their annual publication. His story Four Stories From The Quiet won first prize in the 2010 Literal Latte fiction contest. Earlier he received a grant for prose fiction from the New Jersey State Council on the arts. Other short stories have appeared in publications including Berkeley Fiction Review, Confrontation, Eclipse, The Griffin, Harpur Palate, The MacGuffin, Old Hickory Review, Portland Review, San Jose Studies, Sou’Wester, Reed Magazine, Rio Grande Review, River Oak Review, and Willard & Maple. He is thankful for a career in marketing and communications (with lots of editing and writing) that spanned the public and private sectors, and for the freelance work that still comes in the door. Robert is a graduate of Brandeis University (BA, Music), and the Catholic University of America (MA, Theatre). Visit his website: www.robertmoulthrop.com.
