Wrong Disc in the Case. Twice!

Love the actual music (had a copy of the CD at one point but it got broken), however, as seen in the photos I provided, the disc inside the case is not The Emancipation of Mimi. It is a bonus disc dvd from the Bourne Identity Collection. I sent the first one back, and reordered thinking it was just a fluke but no! The replacement copy was the same incorrect disc! I’m not going to try again. I will purchase this album elsewhere.

Mariah Carey never ceases to amaze me!! Charmbracelet may not have been her best album vocally but what amazed me by that album was that it didn't sound like any other of her other albums and it was like that "My Saving Grace" song was made for me because since I am a Christian, I feel exactly the same, Lord Jesus is my saving grace. After just one listen to The Emancipation Of Mimi, it amazes me how Mariah is not afraid to take chances, she doesn't have to have every single album sound exactly alike, she does what she wants and doesn't let anyone tell her what to do. NO album is exactly alike. There's always progression. I am, always have been, and always will be Mariah's true and hugest fan!! It's like Mariah writes these songs for me, I mean that I can totally relate, I'm a girl so it's not literally for me but hopefully people will know what I mean!!! I totally love The Emancipation Of Mimi which debuted at number 1 on the Billboard 200 charts and spawned Mariah's 16th #1! As I am writing this review I have now listened to it over 200 times since it came out and this CD has NEVER once left my home CD player or car CD player!!! That's gotta tell you something!!!!

The song It's Like That is so awesome to dance and sing along to. I love the music, the lyrics, and especially Mariah's powerful vocals! My all time favorite song is really hard to pick because there are two songs that I love and really can't decide between the two. We Belong Together is such a wonderful, beautiful slow ballad that reached number 1 on Billboard, Mariah's 16th #1, it's so powerful musically, vocally and lyrically and Mariah's voice is so amazing and everyone who thinks Mariah can't sing anymore, don't know what they're talking about because Mariah's voice is so incredible, especially on the end of this song!!! I totally love it!!!! The song Fly Like A Bird is such a spiritually, powerful song and it's amazing that Mariah wrote these words that I've been wanting to say, well I've been searching for the right words and it's Mariah who knew exactly what I was feeling toward the Lord. Mariah's church Minister or Pastor speaks throughout the song and "His Love Will Never Forsake You Or Leave You Alone, Trust Him" is forever in my soul. Words like "Carry Me Home, Higher Jesus, Carry Me Higher Lord" and "I Need You Now Lord, Carry Me High, I Need The Strength Of You By My Side" and "Keep Your Head To The Sky, With God's Love You'll Survive." There is also a Choir singing. This song tells exactly how I feel toward the Lord Jesus and what I want to say to him. There's nothing better than my favorite singer of all time singing about my saviour, Lord Jesus!!! Another favorite of mine is Joy Ride. Not because my name is in the title, because it's such a cool pop song that you can sing along to and Mariah's vocals are over the top, especially at the very end of the song with Mariah doing that really high note and that long note she holds at the end, it's incredible!!!!! I love the music during the chorus of Joy Ride with drum and bass beats, it's awesome!!! Shake It Off is a really cool R&B upbeat song. Mine Again is another slow ballad that Mariah belts on. Mariah just about belts on every single song, especially on We Belong Together, Mine Again, Joy Ride, and Fly Like A Bird. Say Somethin' with Snoop Dogg is a really cool dance R&B song with a really cool beat to dance to and I find myself singing along to this song too. Stay The Night is a very soulful and unique song, the music reminds me of something from the 50's or 60's and I love the way Mariah sings and belts. I love It!! Get Your Number with Jermaine Dupri is a cool upbeat R&B song that I also like. One And Only with Twista is a cool mid-tempo song that I like a lot. Circles is another slow ballad that I love and love the way Mariah sings!! Your Girl is a really cool upbeat song and I love the way Mariah sings in the chorus, it's a really cool song to sing along to!!! In I Wish You Knew, Mariah speaks a few times during the song and you hear an audience, a very beautiful slow ballad, I especially love the end when Mariah hits that high note!!! To The Floor with Nelly could be the next club song, it's a really cool upbeat R&B/Hip-Hop song.

When I hear the song Fly Like A Bird, I picture just soaring way up high in the clouds because the song just makes me think of being up there in the clouds, being free, and on Joy Ride, I picture being up in the stars because the whole song makes me picture being up there high and flying through the stars. If Mariah was to make a music video for Fly Like A Bird, I picture her just soaring through the clouds on an Eagles' wing or something and for Joy Ride, I picture Mariah soaring through the stars. Mariah sings with so much emotion, soul, and power on these songs, all 14 of them, using all 7 of her octaves, hitting that really high note a lot!!! There is all sorts of elements, Pop, Hip-Hop, Soul, Gospel, and R&B. I have noticed that a lot of people are stating that Mariah is in her 40's or 50's and that is NOT TRUE!! Mariah was born in 1970 so she's only 35! And I also noticed people are just assuming that every other track has a hip-hop collaboration. NOT TRUE!! Out of 14 tracks, only 4 of them have some kind of collaboration which means 10 of them are JUST MARIAH!!! And if you get the U.K. version, 11 are JUST MARIAH with Sprung. Sprung is a bonus track that sounds very unique. It doesn't sound like any other song Mariah has ever done and highly recommend you getting this for Sprung! Mariah's new CD, The Emancipation Of Mimi is a MUST HAVE for anyone who likes any of those elements I listed above and especially Mariah fans!! Mariah is the BEST!!!

Yes like everyone else I have heard Mariah Carey's singles for the past decade or so and I must say I was not impressed at all-she had no sudlty and was unasamadley a walking commercial.'The Emancipation Of Mimi' changed my opinion all the way around.For once Mariah uses all the shadings of her voice-her vocal shading as WELL as her normal rangely vocal gymnastics,which is terrific don't get me wrong.As far as a composer AND singer her growning achivment in the uptempo department is the wonderful "Say Something"-stripped down,a steady beat,lightly synthesized and a very unique sense of melody."It's Like That","Shake It Off" and "Get Your Number" are all similarly wonderful-when a guest singer or hip-hopper appears it is almost as another instument and never intrudes.The most impressive of these songs are the lean,soul drenced ballads-"We Belong Together","Mine Again","Your Girl" and "I Wish I Knew" are all fabulous but on the other hand "Circles" and "Fly Like A Bird" are plain triumphant-great electric piano and freeing words.Like just about anything that Mariah Carey does there are some highly produced elements but unlike before nothing reduces to sacchrine or disposibility.It is all in good taste.It doesn't matter-Mariah has always had a great instrument of a voice and I have never heard it used better then on this CD.

Mariah Carey/MC/Mimi shines on this outstanding album which deserves a Grammy. I have been listening non-stop to The Emancipation of Mimi since I received it and I am not tired of it! Her voice is amazing, the lyrics are catchy and the rhythms enticing. I must say I'm not a fan of many rap collabos but I am enjoying all the collabos on this album. Even the bleeps where the green verbs are on "One and only" have not thrown me off because the song is so emotionally expressive that I just enjoy it completely! MC is at her expressive best on this album, which is also a little bit tongue-in-cheek and funny! And her vocals are just...Wow! I love this album so much it will be another one of MC's album that I buy in duplicate, the first one since Daydream. All but one of the songs are about love, falling in love, being cheated on, being afraid to confess love etc but who cares whether you can relate?! I wish these songs spoke about my life but I'm glad at least some of them don't! I still love to sing them out loud though! Fly Like a Bird is the beautiful exception to all the love songs but you will start loving gospel if you didn't before with MC leading the way to higher heights! Get this album today, it is a keeper!

Many of the songs on this cd have a 1970s disco feel to them - particularly the backing singers.The Emancipation of Mimi (Mimi was what Mariah's mum called her when she was young)was consistently pleasant to listen to,and had vocals that it's hard to imagine anyone else being able to produce, but there were no great songs such as the ones you can find on Rainbow,Butterfly or her first recording, Mariah Carey.Rainbow and Butterfly were both the results of great suffering in Mariah's personal life,so let's hope,for her sake, she doesn't come up with more albums like them!
