This is the continuation of Laurie, James and Liam's story. You'll remember from book one, that James messed up. He cheated on Laurie with her best friend ONE night and regretted it the moment it happened. Laurie was devastated. She went out of town for business and ended up having a revenge fling with Liam. Yes, James cheated first. That does not make it okay and under the same circumstances, I'm not sure how I would handle such a life altering mistake. But Laurie continued having her affair with Liam and filed for divorce. Then Liam announced that he bought her company and then sold it to her dad. He'd been lying to her for a month and she felt broken and betrayed. James continued to apologize and made it clear he wanted another chance with Laurie. This is where book two starts.

I went into this second book all about Liam. It didn't take me long to change my mind and decide James genuinely cared about Laurie and deserved something, although at first I wasn't sure what. Again, it's hard to judge what someone else should or shouldn't do. Each relationship is different and I'm a big believer in no cheating. But for some reason I wanted James to get a second chance. He's so sorry for his one mistake and in trying to win Laurie back, he takes so much pain from Laurie. He mans up and accepts his weakness and does whatever he can to prove he loves Laurie and will never hurt her again.

I guess because I felt so much for James, I had a hard time watching Laurie constantly throw his mistake back in his face. Yes he was wrong. He committed the unforgivable and broke a marriage vow. He deserves her anger and mistrust. But I couldn't forget that what she had with Liam was so much more.

I really enjoyed this book. As a follow up to Entice I knew going into it that it would be a battle for Laurie's affection between Liam, the man she had an affair with who happens to be her boss, and James, her husband who had a one night stand with his secretary who was also Laurie's best friend.

I could understand Laurie's pain and hurt over her husband's one night stand. I could even understand her turning to another man to make herself feel better. But, she knew what she was in for with Liam. He warned her that he didn't want a traditional relationship and she still developed feelings for him. I really liked Liam and I loved that the author didn't take the cliche road where the playboy man suddenly changes his mind and falls head over heals for the heroine. Don't get me wrong, I love those stories too but this one didn't deserve that ending.

I didn't want to like James after what he had done to Laurie. But in this book I couldn't help but fall in love with him. He was trying so hard to make things better and to win her back. He did everything he could possibly do and yet she still kept pushing him away. I was a little upset that she made him jump through so many hoops when she did the same, and even more.

In the end James won her heart back and they ended up working things out. The only thing that bothered me is the lack of closure with Liam. I think that the confrontation between them needed to happen, and I was a little disappointed by the lack of fireworks there.

The next book in the series won't be out for a while but it is supposed to have new characters. I will take a look to see if it sounds interesting when it comes out.

I received a gifted copy in exchange for a honest review.

Embrace is the best of endings for Laurie's story. At times throughout the story I cried crocodile tears. By the time I finished I was pleasantly surprised with the journey that Laurie had taken and where she ended up. Embrace is endearing, passionately, and leaves a message of forgiveness and redemption. The actions that occurred in the marriage were destructive, but in the end lessons were learned for both Laurie and her husband.

I usually don't get overexcited about books dealing with cheating. Entice and Embrace represent much more than that. How S. Layne dealt with the story line, character definitions, conflicts, and resolutions gave Embrace such a high rating. The story was more than surviving the damage of an affair, it was about thriving in midst of the tidal wave of destruction.

I loved how S. Layne defined the characters in the story. Take Laurie for instance. When Laurie first found out about her husband's indiscretion, she was weak and made decisions based upon emotions. Very poor decisions in fact. Then we have her husband James who knew he did wrong but made no corrections to chance the environment he was in. Finally, we have Liam who was a non-committed sort of person that provided Laurie with the recognition that she was attractive as her self-worth had been hit. As the story progresses we get to see a change in the characters. Laurie starts to learn to thrive on her own. James takes a lesson in selflessness. Now Liam, he kind of kept fighting harder to keep Laurie. She was almost like a possession to him. I had no idea which way the story would go. What I knew was that Laurie and James were growing up and learning from their mistakes. I liked how S.
