First, this is one of the best series that I have read in a while! The second book is even better than the first one! I'm just in love with the series and am excited and anticipatingly waiting the next book Sacrifice. The characters and their dialogue play off one another perfectly. I can't say enough about how I love this book or this series!
The story flows great from the first book to the second. This is the continuation of Celeste's story of being the conduit of the Gryphon and how she is learning to cope with life and being a heroine. We meet new yummy characters: Caleb and Rowan. We also meet a rag tag bunch of dark army dweebs known as the Dark Army Glee Club, loved them! Will Celeste embrace her calling and her life? Will she meet a yummy man too good for her to be real? Does everyone have secrets and extracurricular motives behind what they do? Who is in charge of the Dark Army since Barnabus is gone? I give it a 5 star since that's all they will allow :) I would give more if they let me! NEED TO READ BOOK!
Very entertaining! This was definitely better than book 1. This one ended up being a can't put it down read, with much better flow. There were a lot of editing errors that bogged down the flow a bit. I stayed up way later than I should have, trying to get thru the book. The characters are developing/evolving, with a lot of snarky attitude thrown in. The sibling dynamics are mostly the same, with a bit of anger/jealousy/rivalry/angst thrown into the mix. An unexpected romance comes into play as well (that one really took me by surprise). The subtle humor is great (you're grinning while reading kind of humor), I much prefer to laugh than to cry when I read. So far, the series is great, definitely not predictable, & well worth reading.
Stacey Rourke's second installment of the Gryphon Series, Embrace, is as well-written as the first. The writing style is very polished and well-balanced. The descriptive nature of the writing helps draw you into the story and allows you to visualize the setting and moment you are reading. Rourke's timely wit only aids to further grab your attention as you become immersed into the tale of Celeste and her siblings fighting the Dark Army while they struggle with the effects of supernatural powers bestowed upon them all while trying to develop a "normal" life.
The plot of the second book flows extremely well with the first book, The Conduit, and does not miss a beat. Very quickly you are as mentally involved with the characters as you were when you finished The Conduit. The story line successfully introduces new characters while further developing the ones you have read about previously.
One of the best parts of this book is the inclusion of plot twists and turns. You will not find yourself making assumptions about how things will happen later in the story only to read you were correct in later chapters. When you combine this aspect of the novel with the descriptive writing and quick wit, you find yourself visualizing yourself in the story and have the feelings you would if you were in the situations presented to the characters.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a fantasy novel; age is not a barrier as young and old will enjoy it. It is refreshing to read about fresh new scenarios and not the same old vampires or werewolves running around. I am sure after you read The Conduit and Embrace, you will be as excited for the next book as I am.
If you are on the fence about buying this book, do yourself a favor and just do it. You will wonder why you waited so long to do so.
Embrace is the second book in The Gryphon Series. I absolutely loved The Conduit and the bar had been set high. Embrace does not disappoint! This book was beyond amazing... There's just so many amazing moments in the book that I don't really want to spoil it for you all! So just a teeny tiny description will have to do...
Celeste has come to terms of her being the Conduit and having her sacred duty just because her ancestors made a pact centuries ago. Her siblings seem to be able to adjust to performing their sacred duties and have a normal life too. Celeste is unable to get over Alec and find love again... Enter Caleb and all that is about to change. Add to that Rowan the bad boy pirate demon and everything she knows, she has to question. Who should she trust? What should she do?
This book was just too good if not better than its predecessor. The plot was amazing and it kept me guessing as to what would happen next. There was not a single dull moment in the entire book and it had me hooked right from the start. What I loved most about this book is that its believable. Not everyone is perfect as its always shown in the books. But Celeste's character shows that even though she is super strong and the fabled "Chosen One" she still is vulnerable - That to me just makes the story that much more better for me. She is the superhero and still needs her family and friends as we all do.
I'll just say that this is an amazing book and you all should definitely give it a read!! :D
And the cover!! *-* Amazing isn't it?!

I have a new five letter word for hot, delicious and me wantie.....Caleb. Firstly you got the Irish brogue down. I was reading it and was thinking....yup I know a guy that talks like that here in Ireland. Add to that his dreamy eyes and those muscles (woman you know better than you leaving me wanting more!!!) and we have a character that I only want to see more and more of.
And the Glee Club!!!! I loved them and could picture them so vividly and then you had to go do that!!!!
Overall an excellent read and I look forward to more.
Eighteen year old Celeste Garrett has to come to terms with being the Chosen One. She knew having a normal life would be tricky, but between the intense training sessions and fighting demons, she didn't realise what it would cost.
She meets two of the hottest men ever. Rowan, the blonde, blue-eyed demon and black-haired, green-eyed Caleb.
However, who can she trust when all is not as it seems?
This is the second book in The Gryphon Series by Stacey Rourke. I have been eagerly awaiting the release of this book since I read the first book, The Conduit. When I started to read this story, I found myself smiling in anticipation! I knew I was going to love this story, and I was right!
Celeste and her siblings, Gabe and Kendall, have been training very hard with their spirit guide, Alaina. Celeste has been shouldering alone the burden of her ex-boyfriend turning to the dark side. She has been trying to come up with a way of rescuing him, with very little success.
Whilst on a girls night out with her friend, Celeste meets five demons that have been sent to kill her. These are the nerdiest demons I've ever read about. I absolutely loved Stacey's descriptions of them! When I read what they called themselves, I laughed out loud!
Celeste's life gets even more complicated with the arrival of Rowan, a rebel demon who is trying to win his freedom. I found his character to be very interesting and full of charisma.
What can I say about Caleb? WOW, HE'S HOT! Hands off girls, he's mine! I love the combination of black hair, green eyes and an Irish brogue! I think if I had to fight Celeste for him though, I would definitely lose! I don't have supernatural powers, so it's an unfair fight to start with!
There are some startling revelations, and a few surprising twists that kept me riveted to the pages. I am now dying to find out what happens in the next book, as Stacey has quite evilly, in my opinion, left me dangling on a knife-edge due to the enigmatic cliff-hanger of an ending! I highly recommend this book, and series, as it is completely unique and a fantastic YA romance/ action adventure!
Book Two of the Gryphon Series
As with The Conduit, I couldn't tear myself away from this book. My imagination completely got the better of me (might have had something to do with the introduction of a gorgeous Irish guy) and once again I was fully immersed in the lives of Celeste, Gabe, and Kendall (and Grams, couldn't possibly forget Grams even if I tried).
Everything is just bigger and better with this book (didn't think that was possible after reading book one). The sibling rivalry is comical, something everyone that has brothers or sisters can relate to, and all other aspects are completely entertaining. Some "good" characters are actually "evil", and vice versa, but that's the best thing - keeps the reader gripped to see what's coming next.
I need more of these characters and now, Book Three cannot be released fast enough.
I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
