I have listened to the beautiful voice of Ella since I was a child and have rarely been moved by her interpretations. For most of her recordings, she seems missing from the message, delivering the exact notes from the page. Without changing that tradition, she shows in this rendition a most personal, intimate message barely above whispering. I cannot believe that she recorded this without someone nearby that she loved deeply. That is how she moved me so that I thought of someone who should have received that thought from me. Regret and yearning is bound up in her contemplative lines.
