Determined to change her life for the better, Lou flies to a really important job interview overnight. She meets Carson in a bar and is completely swept up in this amazing connection she feels with him. She shares one incredible night with him which brings her to the realization that there are wonderful men out there and even though it was for a fleeting moment in time, she felt beautiful and desired.
Carson has been haunted by the memory of that one night he spent with a woman he felt completely connected too. She was perfect and he cannot understand how she could just vanish into thin air, did she not feel the same connection as he did? He has tried everything he can think of to find her and is shocked to finally see her again in his home town, one year later.
Both of their lives have changed since that night 12 months ago and neither of them are the same people they were, the only thing that hasn't changed is that pull they have towards each other. An incredibly intense connection.
Lou has not been completely honest with Carson about who she is and what she has done in the past year or so. She is afraid to open up to him because she thinks he will look at her differently and not want to be with her. She has got to fess up if she is to have any chance at a happy ever after with this sweet man.
Emergence tells the story of Carson and Lou. After a steamy and intense one night stand, Lou leaves without a word and Carson is left wondering what went wrong. Fast forwards 1 year later, they meet again and this time our hero will do anything in his power to keep Lou all to himself. But little does he know that she comes with some unexpected baggage and a dark and tormented past.
Now, while I loved the premise for the book, I felt that little by little it fell into a predictable pattern. I loved the heroine – Lou was a strong young woman, with a great head on her shoulders, who endured a lot in her in her past, to only become a strong and independent woman, who won’t let anyone tell her what to do with her life. I did adore Carson – he’s the typical manwhore turned good guy, but it was interesting to only see his sweet side in this book and nothing else. Another thing I think was nicely done were the steamy sex scenes. The author didn’t overdo in the ‘come for me’ department, and these scenes were original and smokin’ HOT.
Like I said before, there are also a lot of aspects that didn’t truly get me. I felt that some scenes from Lou’s past were rushed – I would’ve wanted more scenes with her husband, Derek, I would’ve wanted to see more angst and see Lou show more emotion toward that chapter of her life. I think the side stories, Caroline, Carson’s sister and her relationship with Luke, and Charlie, Lou’s sister and her marriage, were really rushed. I didn’t end up connecting with any of them and they felt like they didn’t even belong in this story.Read more ›
He is witty, flirty, sexy and everything that Lou didn't have. She was flirtatious, sassy and for the first time in her life, did something just for her. Too bad it only lasted one night.
Their reconnection picked up right where they left off. I liked that. Of course there were some questions, but it fit their story well that things moved fast for them.
Olivia Hayes did a marvelous job at this second chance love story. The characters were easy to relate to, their story was steamy, sweet and just perfect for them. Lou is quite the lady to get away from her jerk of a husband and stay away. I will say though, her sister made me so angry, but she was true to character. Naivety and false hope happens all too often, I was glad that Lou was stronger. She deserves to be happy. Carson is so sweet. It's so easy to see him as the play boy but also as the guy who fell in love with a woman after one night. There's something special about him. At times, he seemed much older than what he was, but that comes with maturity. He certainly isn't your rich, millionaire playboy type, that's for sure. The supporting characters are just as developed as the main characters. I liked that they didn't overshadow the main story. I hated to see the story end, that's how much I liked Carson and Lou.
