It definitely reflects my body heat back to me, I had it on bare skin, crawled under my down comforter with it, all the while wondering if my toenails were going to tear it, but they didn’t… it did cause sweating so I really need to make sure I have clothing on underneath it. I am planning on putting one of these in a twin size duvet to use in bed on the really cold nights...Mostly to wrap around myself when I head off to the bathroom after pulling out from under a nice warm down comforter in my unheated house. I think it will be easier to handle in a duvet...and quieter. LOL
It comes in a very tiny little packet, and you’ll never get it back in that packet. I put it in a quart size Ziploc bag when I was through playing with it. Someday, when I’m really bored and feeling patient, I will see if it’s possible to get it back into that little packet.
For now however, I am very happy with my purchase, and plan on cutting one of these up to use as a light reflector, in cat beds, in gloves and shoes and in my sleep hat...etc.
**Just remember that in order to prevent body heat from having a way to escape, one needs to lay or sit down on one sheet/blanket, and use another one to cover up with.**
On the other hand, I have also used them in my mudroom in a mini-greenhouse type of space for growing tomatoes in the off season. The framework is 2 feet X 4 feet, floor to ceiling, with a grow light on the top and the mylar sheets used as liners for a canvas surround. The mylar keeps heat and light reflected from all directions toward the plants and the tomatoes do quite well.
These are fairly thin and do tear easily. The canvas painter's cloths protects them in the mudroom, but I would assume that they would be pretty much single use as emergency blankets.
By ordering a dozen of them, your per-unit cost goes down tremendously and you can put one in the glove box or trunk of every car, every backpack, every purse/murse, and every first-aid kit you have .
two sheets sealed at the edge.. basically giving you 2 layers of material
With them open at one end they can be used like a sleeping bag thus retaining more heat around your body ..
I am using them to insulate a portable green house during the winter.. the double layer of material retains more heat than the single sheets I used last year..
