the moral of this story is that MYLAR DOESN't BREATH like at all, do NOT get too hot, and let yourself sweat in one of these, pack a very small fleece blanket with it... Also in a survival situation, you will not get your perfect 8 hours of sleep. Be happy with the 3-5 you get.. I found that if you go to bed once you can't see the sun(but still where you are going) you'll wake up about 2-3 AM when it's coldest, make a fire and chill til' the sun comes up.
also something i for got to add, in survival situations, use layers when it's most cold, one very thick layer will not insulate better than 2-5 layers, The goal is to get tiny pockets of air between your clothes that act as insulation, plus that's why you would stuff leaves between two shirts.
I'd buy this 10/10 times.. I was stupid the first time i used this. I hope to pass on my knowledge so you will not have to suffer like i did. thanks for reading:)
Mylar will also hide your thermal image from search & destroy, flying, unmaned drones; just in case you didn't know that.
Based on other reviews, I was worried about how reusable it would be.
I bought two things to suppement my project:
1) 10ft self adhesive Velcro
2) roll of gorilla tape
I cut a slit down the center, full length and lined the cut with gorilla tape on every edge. I also reinforced the original seams
I placed the Velcro over the tape along the center and voilà we had a double weatherproof bivy for our sleeping bags
- we placed out mats inside as well so it wouldn't be as loud and would help with more internal insulation
- we zipped our mummy bags together
I added some rope to the end so we could fold it in to quarters and roll it up as well
The only drawback I that we ended up with a little condensation on one side each morning after sealing it up about 50% of the way each night when it dipped in to low 50/high 40s

They weigh practically nothing and will cover two people comfortably.
