With Emerson's award-winning and patented SmartSet technology, the flashing "12:00" display is a thing of the past. The CKS1702 digital tuning clock radio automatically sets itself on the first use to the correct year, month, date, day, and time. The clock radio features a large and easy-to-read LED display. The alarm can be programmed to operate on weekdays only, weekends only, or all seven days of the week. The alarm displays the month and date with the touch of a button. Set the alarm to wake you to your favorite AM/FM music or news station, or to the buzzer. The clock radio adjusts itself automatically for Daylight Savings Time and Leap Year, as well as maintains the correct time when the power returns after power outages. Getting out of bed will no longer be a chore with the help of the CKS1702.

The radio is good for local stations; if it could pull in distant stations, like BBC Canada, I would give it more stars.
SIX MONTHS LATER...
I should have realized these reviews paint a picture of confusion over features, troubles encountered, and manufacturing differences. Mine worked for less than six months, but now pressing the buttons might display the date, cannot even set the alarm, it will not keep time, nor will the alarm sound. I have never dropped the unit or spilled liquid on it- but the electronics can't reliably keep time- the only thing it could do right. Emerson's Chinese plants must be using non-spec components. I want nothing to do with any more Emerson products, or their vendors.
You can set it for weekdays only or weekends only or everyday of the week. You may also set two different alarm times - one for weekdays, one for weekends. You can set it for the USA time zone you live in - mine came already set for zone 2 but it was easily changed. You can choose radio or buzzer to be awakened by. It has a battery for anytime your home may loose power, and will even set itself for daylight-savings time every time at 3:15 am. I once sat up to watch it set itself. The experience is a bit overrated but I did see it reset at 3:15 am.
This Emerson can most definitely be called a "smart" alarm clock!
Although I prefer the dual-setting feature, I couldn't find it on Amazon so I settled for my present CKS1702. It does everything I ask it to plus the quality of the radio is superior to any other clock radios I've had. I only employ it for awaking me, so we're talking less than 30 seconds per day. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that I would have preferred a dual-setting version.
