Everyone concerned pro or con, with 2nd Amendment rights should read this. Although the author has her picture on the cover, this is NOT just a book for women. Emily Miller has many facts from her own experience and research that I've not read before, and all the facts are well documented in the appendix. The book is written in an appealing style with Emily alternating telling her story of the long process of acquiring a gun in the very unfriendly to gun purchasers, Washington DC, and facts related to the DC gun laws and the very difficult process DC instituted to limit legitimate gun purchases. Emily's experience is AFTER, the U.S. Supreme Court Heller Decision which allowed individuals in DC to own guns. Emily has appeared on many TV news programs and although she is petite, she packs a factual punch with her book. She is an opinion editor for a major newspaper, The Washington Times. Google Emily Miller and watch her deal with 10-15 major news anchors by showing them "just the facts". This book will make a great Christmas gift.

This book is exceedingly well written and by turns informs and angers the reader. It points out the never ending need for all of us to stand up and insist on our rights. If we fail to do that, the government will take them all away. I say this in a non-partisan way. It is the nature of government to do this, no matter which party has the current majority. Emily Miller gives us facts. Some of the ancillary stories in this book will break your heart. They have nothing really to do with Emily getting her gun, but I for one am glad she included them. This is a must-read book!

I live in Europe (Germany) and thought my country (after UK) is the most gun controlled democracy. More control can only exist under dictatorships - until I read this book.

The gun law in Washington D.C. (one of the US cities with the highest murder rate) is hysterical.You cannot explain the law with reason. The only explanation is "elite panic" as lots of politicians who can afford bodyguards (or the government pays for their protection) live in this city and can influence the law.

Emily wrote this book with lots of anecdotes where you don't know if you want to cry or laugh. Wonderful - and thanks for her experience which she took liberally....

I was born in a country with the right under our Common Law to be armed for my defence (as declared in Article 7 of the English Bill of Rights of 1689). Politicians have confiscated all registered pistols, leaving only criminals and cops with pistols despite this right. Violent crime in Britain is much worse than before the first gun law (1920 Firearms Act) and far worse than those US States where the Right to keep and bear arms is not infringed. I now live sbroad in a country that trusts me to have arms.
