Once again, Ms. Holt has created characters that I couldn't help but fall in love with. Emma and Morgan were kind and intelligent individuals whose passion and connection was both believable and lovely. Emma was definitely the more genteel of the four Chadwick sisters, and while Morgan is described as a "rake" it's not really evidenced much. They seemed to settle into married life rather happily and also genuinely like each other, which was nice. Overall I thought it was a fast and fun read that engaged me from start to finish. At a little over 2100 kindle locations it was neither too long or short, and left me with a smile on my face when it ended. I did notice probably a dozen or so typos (mostly misspelled words) and think it could use some editing, but this didn't bother me overmuch. Since I've been looking forward to Catherine's story (who happens to be the youngest and boldest of the bunch) I'll be pre-ordering it for sure, and just hope it lives up to my expectations =)
Emma never thought she would fall in love. She certainly didn’t think it would fall on her, but that’s exactly what happened. All she wanted was to escape the ballroom for a while to get away from the noise and the heat. Lord Radcliffe, Earl of Whitehurst wanted to escape an unwanted encounter with Mrs. Newton. Morgan thought going out the window was a fine idea, until he realizes that her couldn’t go back in and it was a long way down. Emma’s attempt to rescue him fails when he bounces out of the straw cart directly on top of her. As luck would have it, this took place in front of an audience, including Mama. Scandal or marriage? Morgan and Emma marry. It seems that all might work out except they discover that he hates the country and she hates London. Can Emma uncover the secret to Morgan’s dislike of the country and convince Morgan that the country is wonderful, or at least not horrible? Or will she have to live in London?
Emma and the Earl is the third story in the Bluestocking Brides series. It is a quick and entertaining read. There is romance, humor, and just a little mystery. There is even a villain of sorts, actually more of a pest, who thwarts Emma’s attempts to sway Morgan’s anti-country attitude. The characters from the first two books are all here, entertaining as ever. It was fun watching Emma and Morgan come to know each other. This is a delightful addition to a wonderful series. I look forward to the next book. I can’t wait to what is in store for Catherine.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily reviewed it and the comments are my own.
Ms. Samantha Holt has really created quite a world with the amazing Chadwick sisters and I just can’t get enough of them! I am pulled in by them their antics, their love and loyalty toward each other especially in this book. The book might be short and quick but there is enough story to satisfy me the characters are quite developed and best of all you don’t need to read the rest in the series because all of them can stand alone but you just might want to read them all just to understand the amazing Chadwick sisters and their strong familial relationship. Ms. Holt just knows how to tell an engaging charming story filled with intrigue, depth, and emotion with fully fleshed out characters that despite the quick read I enjoyed every second of the story.
What can I say about the beautiful unsure wary conscious adventurous winsome Emma? I seriously just loved her. She would try everything to find her place among her sisters and everything she tried she would be unsuccessful. I really felt for Emma because who hasn’t felt like this trying to fit in or find something they are really good at when really people will love you for who you are no matter if you aren’t good at anything you just have to be yourself. I wanted to tell Emma to keep trying she will eventually find her place in the world and people love her. I think if she really lived we would get along famously even doing all those things that she isn’t good at too. Morgan well despite being a rake really didn’t appear to be with Emma. I think he wanted to prove he was so much more that I seriously wanted to shake him to loosen up. I think if he let Emma know about who he really is she would be accepting of him because that is who she truly is but I can understand his reticence still he wasn’t a bad guy. I liked him for being a total gentleman to Emma. I can’t wait to see what happens to the last Chadwick girl Catherine she will definitely be a handful and will be eagerly awaiting the next in the series!
