Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Research has told us that to be successful in our personal and professional lives we need emotional intelligence (EQ). In this book, leading psychologist Dr Martyn Newman shows us how to get it and use it to achieve extraordinary results.

Emotional Capitalists is an engaging and entertaining book that demands every leader's attention... Martyn Newman has done a masterful job of researching and writing this book. He has given us an easily accessible, refreshingly readable, and remarkably practical work.
Jim Kouzes -- Author of the best-seller, The Leadership Challenge

Every once in a while a book appears that isn't just informative, it's inspiring, fun to read and life-changing. The Emotional Capitalists is one of those rare books... I recommend: Buy it, read it, learn from it, and apply it to your daily practice!
Daniela Sfameni -- Global Head Human Resource Development for Allianz Global Investors Group

The first practical book for leaders which tells you HOW to get emotional intelligence. I am convinced emotional wealth can create a competitive advantage. Martyn Newman's book is a simple read and a must for all leaders.
Dimitra Manis -- Global Senior Vice President, AXA Group, Paris

Martyn Newman's Emotional Capitalists is one of those insightful books that steps away from the theory of leadership [and] challenges one's self perception of one's own. Emotional Capitalists is therefore key reading for anyone wanting to make it happen!
Luke Mulkearns -- People Capability Director, Business Services, Cadbury PLC

This book is an exciting, brand-new guide for developing leadership in both personal and professional life.
Steve Arthurson -- Director, Capability Development, Foster's Group

This book has proven to me that no matter how technically trained you are, and how well you know your business, you need to embrace emotional capitalism to be the leader you aspire to be.
Greg Healy -- CFO, Quiksilver Asia Pacific

This book is long overdue in the field of emotional intelligence. Since Goleman made us aware of the importance of EI we've known that we need it. At last a book that tells us how to actually build it. The book is built on a rigorous platform of research with some of the world's outstanding young leaders. The author identifies the unique emotional profile of these entrpreneurs and sets the benchmarks to aim for. Each chapter then systematically describes the psychological building blocks that comprise these essential skills. The book has remarkable psychological depth but is very readable, intensely practical and full of interesting stories and research that bring the skills to life. This really is the 'how to' manual of applying emotional intelligence to leadership. This is a 'must read' for everyone who wants to lead effectively in the 21st Century. It's a fabulous resource for leaders.

This is one of the best books that I have read in the past few years. It is easy to read and understand and you will be asking yourself questions about life. It will also give you hints and ideas to change the way we do things and see life, I have recommended the book to my friends and collegues in work.

I would recommend that people read this book with an open mind and see if you can change that the way you live.

Well done Martyn this was the first book I have read by you but not the last.

Newman's book should be required reading for everyone who leads, or aspires to lead, others. But you certainly do not have to be a leader to benefit from Newman's wisdom. I would advise anyone who is interested in making more of their life to read this book. It is packed with interesting and informative real life examples that show the reader how incredibly important emotional intelligence is but, unfortunately, how often we are found wanting when we need to demonstrate it.

I am an Organisational Psychologist and have read many books on both EQ and Leadership but this is one of the only ones I recommend to everyone I meet whether through business or otherwise. You will find yourself referring back to the book long after you have finished reading it as it is full of really practical and useful strategies for developing your EQ.

Read this book, you'll be a happier and wiser person for it

A well written book that helps you understand people a little better and gives practical advice on how to improve your relationships at work and privately. Newman breaks down the concept of emotional intelligence into practical and easy to understand elements. In the same vein these elements can be developed and improved. Also, the connection of these skills with leadership and leadership development is necessary in our modern world. I would recommend to all my previous and future leaders to read the book.
