Love for the self is the first step in loving everyone else. "Emotional Core Therapy" is an inspirational guide from Robert A. Moylan who shares his own experiences and rough upbringing, as well as his long experience as a counselor, to advise people to piece together their thoughts and lives, build a life without regrets and reach out to others to teach them to live more completely as well. "Emotional Core Therapy" is a fine inspirational read, not to be missed. MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW
Emotional Core Therapy is an excellent book to help people manage their emotions. Currently,I work as a golf teaching pro and used to play on the PGA Tour. Managing your emotions on the golf course is essential to being the best player you can be in competition. Robert A. Moylan's book empowers the reader by teaching them how to properly release troubling feelings of anger, sadness, and anxiety. This book has helped me both on the course and off the course by teaching me to have a calm and relaxed state of mind. Gary Pinns, Former PGA Tour Player
The book Emotional Core Therapy provides the key steps in an easy to master ECT (Emotional Core Therapy) process. Life is after all a process and the more we can align ourselves with this kind of thinking and feeling, the better we are going to manage our lives as well as enjoy them.
ECT is an easy read with clearly defined goals following each chapter. I would suggest that this book is some what like sports. In sports we keep score to know how well we are doing against our opponent. Without keeping score you will never really know if you need to change your strategy, make small adjustments or revamp ones entire approach to both helping others as well as yourself.
As a mental health and substance abuse counselor for almost 27 years I can say without equivocation that ECT is one of the easiest and most successful ways of helping your clients as well as your self.
I highly recommend Emotional Core Therapy

As a student-athlete I am better able to nurture my talent and measure my different forms of emotions using Dr. Moylan's Emotional Core Therapy in order to create better meaning and reach my own and help another build happiness. It is my mission to reach my goals, and help other people get what they want as well, and I am so grateful to experience love and leisure in as profound a way I am now after learning, savoring, and amplifying the skills within Emotional Core Therapy. I am no longer confined to the hell of unhappiness because I am connected to the real flow of the universe! One with the music. I have intense concentration. I know what my highest strengths are and I am using Emotional Core Therapy to re-craft my life. What I get using Emotional Core Therapy is absorption. This way I am in the service of something larger than I am. This is a beautiful book, and lovely read, including assignments and examples of each section of Emotional Core Therapy for how one can savor and begin to better design their life towards happiness and mindfulness. The author has done many philanthropic things to help my satisfaction of life improve. Thank you Dr. Moylan!!!

This review is from: Emotional Core Therapy (Paperback)
As someone who is pretty widely read on the topics of emotions, emotional health, and psychological treatment, popular books rarely have content that surprises me or that I find new and interesting. This book is an exception. Written in an easy-to-understand style, this book breaks down a lot of complex emotional states into a few constituent parts that can be easily understood, and from there effectively treated. Its approach is wiser than that generally found in self-help books, and any reasonably sophisticated reader should be able to implement its content and make positive life changes.

The readers of EMOTIONAL CORE THERAPY will discover a sensible, practical way of staying emotionally healthy in these tumultuous times. Robert A. Moylan explains his therapeutic approach in reader-friendly terms, emphasizing self-care for life's challenges ranging from addiction, anger, and anxiety to depression, fear, and grief… Exercise and meditation play an important role in emotional care therapy as do life's simple pleasures. Assignments and case studies add a practical dimension to this book as does the examination of toxic relationships. But to say more might prevent readers from initiating the book's self-discovery process and its ability to transform its readers' lives for the better.

Emotional Core Therapy is one of the best self help books I have read in a long time! As a therapist myself, I am often looking for books for my clients to use as part of their own therapy sessions, to augment what they are learning, as well as to have an available resource at their fingertips. This book has all of the elements I enjoy to read myself, as well as to recommend for others. It is EASY to read and understand. There are numerous EXAMPLES to illustrate the author's points. He uses easy to understand CHARTS that can help you learn and integrate the concepts. The author GIVES CREDIT to all of the psychotherapy theories that were the forefounders of his theories. He readily acknowleges that there is MORE THAN ONE WAY to help others, and that most importantly, it is what the client finds helpful to them, that is most important, not just trying to sell his theories. He used EXCELLENT and TANGIBLE ways in which we as therapists can help our clients grow, such as listening to a song with them in therapy, or discussing a movie in relationship to what the client is struggling with. I, myself, use similar therapeutic approaches, and found it refreshing to know that someone is willing to take on CREATIVE methods to engage his clients. Through his use of EXAMPLES, CHARTS METPAHORS, STORIES, MUSIC, CASE STORIES....he makes his concepts clear and engaging. His writing style was very simple, in a way that made me as a reader fell I could relate to him, almost as if I was having a discussion with him right in the room! I would recommend this book for fellow therapists, clients, and also feel it would be a valuable tool as a textbook.. Thanks for writing a book that discusses authenticity, and the ability to understand our emotions as normal and natural, and rather than trying to run from feelings, learn how to effectively FEEL and DEAL with them using the Emotional Core Therapy approach. Mary Moonen,Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and Certified Addict
I would highly recommend Emotional Core Therapy for anyone looking to better understand their emotions and to empower themselves during difficult times. The concepts are straightforward and easy to follow and the example cases repeatedly help to illustrate the concepts of ECT and see them applied. This book is easy to read and follow and can be a great tool to assist in self improvement. Susan L. Bank, MD, Psychiatrist. Chicago
As a Licensed Clinical Psychologist I am always searching for new resources for my clients. I was offered the opportunity to preview this book by the author. EXCELLENT!!! Easy read. Practical. Helpful Hints. Great Charts. Concise. Good structure for therapy. Highly suggest this book. Bob is an excellent author & well sought after clinician & friend.

"Identify the emotions you're experiencing and their root cause, and then take action to alleviate the problem. Seeing a therapist can help with that. Meditating and doing things you enjoy is also a good thing to do."
This advice is coupled with a very large number of stories that go something like this:
"When Bob started therapy with me, he was unhappy and anxious and didn't know why. After several sessions, we discovered that his relationship with his wife was the problem. We developed ways for him to address the issue. Now, he has a stronger marriage and his anxiety went down considerably."
After that, you're asked to do an "exercise" such as "Write down 5 emotions that are similar to anger."
This is repeated over and over again, in a very patronizing and condescending manner. I'm no stranger to anxiety and depression, and I've gone to therapy and read other self-help books. I also have a degree in psychology. Robert may very well be a reasonably good therapist, but there is absolutely no reason for a book detailing his clients' success to exist - and that's really all there is to it. All the "concepts" presented could be summed up in a single page.
If you want a book that actually provides legitimate exercises to help you address your issues on your own, try "Prisoners of Belief" by Matthew McKay. It's a bit more work than just "write down 5 synonyms to anger", with a lot less repetition and fluff, but it actually works.
This book is written in plain language, and is easy to understand. Bob deals with an approach that is based on fundamental truths; this is why its effective. It let's us live in the here-and-now, not the past or the future. It also teaches us to focus on ourselves, without being egocentric, or thinking the world revolves around us. Emotional Core Therapy has allowed me to make positive progress. I will be giving copies to a couple of friends I know who could have used this help a long time ago.
