Dr. Neeta Bhushan is an emotional intelligence advocate, international speaker, host of the Revolutionary Leadership podcast and founder of the Global GRIT Institute. Neeta's personal journey - navigating death, cancer, domestic violence and divorce - and how she overcame extraordinary adversity, inspired her to leave her traditional career as a successful but unfulfilled dentist to embark upon a life of global advocacy, championing emotional awareness and new thought leadership. Raised multicultural - with an Indian father and Phillipino mother - Neeta has a unique perspective on multiculturalism. She's used that understanding as well as extensive studies of empathy based solutions to spread transformational wisdom and inspiration to top level CEOs, business executives and notable change makers in over 45 countries. Neeta's greater mission is to create a more heart-centered humanistic society - realizing the capacity for change lies within the mastery of our emotional GRIT.
Dr. Neeta Bhushan articulates with clarity what it means to live Emotional Grit. This book delivers beyond the tools of a roadmap, playbook or step by step guide to compassionate leadership -- it is more than a step by step outline of 'to do's' -- Dr. Bhushan creates cause for expanding humanity into a way of 'being.' As described in the book it is easy to get caught up in seemingly inherent laws aimed at how things should be or how it looks to follow rules of normal behavior. Living a life authentically is the work of internal direction with outward action. My new favorite quote: "Today, I take ownership of my actions and make one decision—to commit to the GRIT journey as an extraordinary human." Dr. Neeta Bhushan
To say Dr. Neeta has simply written a book on emotional leadership would be a gross understatement. What she has really created is a roadmap to freedom – a framework to challenge the stories that have held us back for far too long; a heart-centered guide to fully step into our most authentic, connected selves; an innovative set of understandings and tools that, if practiced, will deepen your impact in the world and the legacy you leave behind.
I am a woman. I'm a minority. i'm Indian. I'm a 29 years old. I'm a biomedical engineer surrounded by men who mask their emotions and I'm an entrepreneur in a world where VCs don't take women seriously... but I'm also a faux single tiger mom. I don't have any kids, but I already have a word document outlining how I would raise them! Being in such cut throat spaces, it's so easy to forget empathy and compassion while constantly competing for your place and respect. This book sheds light on how our personal and work experiences can change for the better if we just learn to communicate without masking our feelings. Dr. Neeta says this often and it may be the most important thing in the book - fill your cup first! The second being - be vulnerable, empathetic, and compassionate. She does an excellent job explaining what steps one should take to learn their own emotional grit. I absolutely love the chapter objectives and end of the chapter reflection questions as they now are the reason behind why I journal. I will say that this has helped me so much while I transitioned between an analyst and a COO!! A must buy!
Neeta's book began to inspire me long before I even finished reading it. Chapter one reads well & sets up her premise, but by chapter two I'm already taking notes & applying the concepts in my life! I can wholeheartedly recommend Emotional Grit as the antidote to so much that needs improving across the board in leadership positions among families, communities or nations! Things could be a lot better & this book outlines several ways of moving in that direction in each of our own lives!
Dr Neeta Bhushan is a remarkable woman who leads and inspires through her pure existence. Just as powerful as she commands the stage, she takes the reins in her book to inspire people to, as she does in person, be better. To challenge leaders and each of us to lead with awareness, consciousness, and foresight of how to build a better organization, company, country, and world through compassion and emotional intelligence. Whether you've seen Dr Bhushan speak on stage or not, this book is for those who seek a more more compassion and humanity in leadership. I can't wait to reread this in several years to see how it will speak to me then.
I got to know Neeta through a common friend on Facebook. I was curious enough to check out her FB site and found that she was on her amazing trip towards publishing this book. I am listening to the audio version of the book as it provides me with a space of being calm during my daily commute and gives me to time to reflect. It is my 'morning (and evening) bliss'. Listening to Neeta reading her book herself is the treat of extra authenticity that comes straight from her heart to the readers. I recommend the book to anybody that wants to connect to their emotional foundation as a rich source to enhance their life.
Some of the steps outlined here were new or simply worded in a way that made sense to me in a new way! Really in love with this author as we NEED to be having some of these conversations more and more. Glad to feel like more leaders are paving the way with powerful approaches to this conversation
True GRIT is not just something you are born with, it is also something that is developed and honed in. In this book, Neeta dives deep into a new era of leadership that is not going away - HEART DRIVEN LEADERSHIP!! Truly a must read for anyone feeling like there is more to them and life.
