I have recently noticed a change in my emotional life. I am no longer at the mercy of other people's wills. I am a calm sea without a cloud in the sky. I do not feel any negative emotions currently. It is like I have some new control over my emotions. I think it may have something to do with trusting God in difficult times. God can give you peace.
But needless to say, learning to control your emotions can take years but it is a worthy goal if you want peace of mind in the long term. Imagine no longer feeling anger, sadness or fear - but instead feeling happiness and joy and a deep sense of calm.
This book talks about self-awareness, self-regulation, empathy and social skills. But what this author does best is analyze emotional vampires. They can be critical, emotionally abusive, narcissistic, intimidating, openly disrespect people (be real jerks) or be an eternal victim. They are interesting to study online but you wouldn't want one in your real life as they can suck all the energy out of your day.
What I loved is there is a list of 15 questions that help you determine if you are emotionally intelligent or need improvement. The test was very easy to take.
I found this book very intriguing and insightful and the author has definitely done his research. So while this is not an updated version of a classic, it has great value to the person seeking more information on how to develop emotional intelligence which will make you more successful at everything in your life. Maybe its not really who you know, but how you treat people that gets you respect and helps you advance in the world.
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Advice for a More Peaceful Existence.

The book as a whole reads like a poorly written term paper that was copy and pasted into a paperback without any thought of editing the formatting, which presents a majority of the data in a confusing way.
The book culminates in a quiz intended to show you how Emotional Intelligent you are. Even this leaves the reader disappointed - with very little creativity as to how it was made. Here’s a hint- if you want to feel good about yourself, just circle true on everything).
Buy the ebook for 1.99, it's probably worth that. But if you spend the 16.99 for a hard copy, you won’t be compelled to keep it on your bookshelf, and you'll have a hard time finding someone to take it off your hands.
This book didn’t teach you how to do that.

In a book about understanding yourself, if you are someone who loves a bit of drama, I can guess you would be very offended by this. Goleman has just told everyone to run away from you and that you will never change or just become worse. to add to this. He hasn't even offered a helpful response or offered a way to help the 'drama-lovers' become more emotionally aware.
To top off my review of how awful this book is, it doesn't even have a registered publisher! The page at the front where a publishers details should be simply says "published by: Brandon Goleman"! As a student who has to write a million bibliographies a year, this is a huge red flag!
I only wish I had come across this book years ago.
This book is a keeper. I will be adding to my permanent library. I will be reading this book over and over ( its that good)!
It's given me a lot insight about myself and people around me and about life...
It really helped me to understand many things and helped me to pass my depression.
Its a must read!
