Format: Hardcover
The book is divided into two sections: one devoted to explaining the philosophical underpinnings of the nature of the human mind, and the second which discusses deviatory psychopathologies. Both sections are well researched and thoroughly evidenced by the author, but the second section was my personal favorite. The distinction made between psychopathy and sociopathy was fascinating and enlightening, and many of the scenarios and examples used by the author in describing psychological conditions mirrored people I've myself observed and interacted with. Most interesting were Kuczynski's explanations of the origins and nature of disorders such as the above-named psychopathy and sociopathy, obsessive-compulsive disorder, borderline personality disorder, and schizophrenia. Kuczynski is very clearly an authority on the pathological development of these and other psychological illnesses, and I anticipate that the criteria he defines to diagnose these conditions will soon become the common standardized method for identifying them.

A wonderful combination of philosophy and psychology, I would absolutely recommend this book to both those inexperienced in either subject as well as veterans of this field of study.
