His Methods Work

My job search was going nowhere until I read this book.

Jones explains why traditional job applications and resumes don’t work. I have experienced exactly the problems he describes. I did not get any feedback after sending out dozens of resumes. But when I read his book and tried his method for contacting a guy by phone I actually got an interview! It was a revelation.

The book has a step by step process for finding job opportunities. I have not done all of them but it has helped me tighten up my game a lot. I finally feel like I have some control instead of watching my resumes disappear every time I apply online. Using his method for finding prospects I am seeing many more possibilities than appear through online job ads.

The author seems authentic and injects a lot of subtle humor into his writing. It’s great to read from someone who has experienced job hunting difficulties and is able to share effective ways to deal with them. Other job hunting books I looked at are just too general and don’t offer tangible ways to do it other than how to fluff up your resume.

It’s like having a dad or uncle tell you how things really work instead of the BS you get from everyone else. Overall the tone is positive and motivating. I hope to see more from this author.

No Fudd, 100% uncut Elmer

It's five stars but all my reviews say the same thing. Elmer's task here is something I paid for as an oblivious seeker in my missions to (unachieved) greatness.

In all relevant details he lets you (unwanted male) train your confidence to accentuate your skills. The book is engaging yet no nonsense. Elmer's hip to the latest trends in the job market for tech, business, science and the trades.

He lets you, the reader, know how to hack a female-dominated, prejudicial labor market. Key subjects are networking, delivering presentations, attire and the art of poise.

It's more grounded than "The Art of the Deal" and certainly no less of a tool. Definitely a book screaming to be written and done with the precision of an ascended master craftsman.

May the name be thrice-blessed. Uncle Elmer, we salute you!

Ride it Out, it's helpful advice

Helpful advice that explains how you can circumvent the hurdles of HR. Although written from the perspective of Engineers, the book is still useful for non-Engineers in the actionable advice given. My only bone of contention is that the first third of the book read like an endless sales pitch, telling me what I was going to learn, but never getting there. I persevered and got to the meat and it was worth it. You should to.

Narrow-minded, anti-female, mis-perceptive

An incredibly male-chauvinistic, narrow-minded "advice" book. It is targeted at "males who are being pushed out of the feminist-dominated workforce and are not being allowed opportunities because the feminist-driven corporate culture does not like men." Frankly, that statement is the only summary needed of the book, and all you need to know out of it. There is no possible benefit derived from reading this book that I can think of. It is written by an elderly gentleman who has apparently suffered some sort of job loss or has had job troubles, and has become embittered by his perception of how things transpired; he states that women are out of their place, and they should be at home "enjoying ruling over their home and experiencing joys of having children."

Hopefully this review will help you with your purchase decision.
