I'm pleased to say I had NO issue with these whatsoever. The one difference between the product I received and the ad is that the caps I got were also transparent, like the tubes themselves. To me, it's a complete non-issue. I even think I prefer the transparent caps myself.
The caps stay secure in place, on level with Burt's Bees, Chapstick, or Blistex lip balm tubes. The crank to twist the product up functions flawlessly, and I think they look brilliant when done.
Another thing people noted is that you can only fill the containers up about 3/4 of the way. Well... I hate to break it to you, but that's most definitely also the case with the store bought lip balm brands, it's just that their tubes aren't transparent like this, so you can't see it as well. When filled and before I stuck the label on them, they didn't look empty or used at all due to this. It just looks like it has room for the mechanism that pushes the product up when you need it to. If you check out the picture on Amazon, that bottom area is about the size of the bottom area in the ones you'll receive.
I wouldn't hesitate to get these! I'm saving so much money on lip balm now, and there's a million recipes online that can get you started. These tubes are an incredible value, and greater quality than many reviewers give them credit for.
Pros: These work really well! I am pretty rough with my chapstick as I use it frequently and I have had no issues with these tubes breaking or cracking. I have used one of these mainly for the last month and it is still in very good condition. These tubes have withstood me dropping them on the ground and throwing them in my purse. They were really easy to fill with my chapstick mixture. The rotating circle to push the chapstick up and down moves smoothly.
Packaging: These came packaged inside of a plastic bag inside of an Amazon box. The lids were not on the tubes when they came which wasn't an issue except that I would be careful when opening the bag as I tore mine and almost dropped some of the lids on my floor (the tubes and lids are sturdy and can take a rough handling such as being dropped).
I would really recommend these if you are looking to make your own chapstick or lip balm. You get many for a good price and these are sturdy tubes and lids. I am going to be ordering these again when I run out.
I have attached a picture of the empty chapstick tube and lid (I have a medium sized women's hand if you want to compare it for size). I have also attached a picture of the tube filled with my chapstick mixture so that you can see what it looks like when filled.
One thing I had a problem with was cleaning these. I boiled them for 4 minutes like I read was a great way to sanitize chap stick tubes, but then water got in the bottom part where the turning mechanism is, and it was very hard to get out. So when you clean these, don't do the boiling method because it's so hard to get the water out. And you don't want water mixing with your oils. That will just make them moldy a lot faster. Be sure there is absolutely no water in these before filling them!
When I filled these, I used a rubber band around 10-15 of these tubes at a time and that worked great so none fell over. I used a funnel to get the product inside the tubes.
