Enchanted Carols by Saydisc.

I love this album. This is one collection of Christmas music and sounds I never tire of listening to, from one year to the next. But, I can't do a better job of describing what's on this album than what some of the other reviewers have already said. I just notice that there are no samples of it on this page (or any other on Amazon for this product) at this time. So, I am just writing in to point to a British website that also sells this product but which has four samples, so you can hear for yourself what's on here. The url is wyastone(dot)co(dot)uk. When you land on their page, go and use their search box for "Enchanted Carols". On the right side of the page you may find "sample tracks" and you can listen for yourself.

Good quality CD but the music just wasn't my cup of tea...

Musically magical and beautifully nostalgic for Christmas long-gone, but wistfully remembered...

Takes christmas a step beyond the music box albums... a glorious shambles of mechanical boxes, "disc pianos" (?), choir/handbell performers, tower bells, and warm, warbly street bands. The variety of performance media is unique, but the arrangement is also fascinating - many of the famous tunes are passed from one kind of device to the next, building cumulatively in a way that a single music box cannot do. A great success.

just to note that there are also choirs and handbells on this disc, at least on my vinyl version, which I suspect is the same, so the disc is indeed more enchanted than might be inferred from descriptions of just mechanical instruments. Lovely and nostalgic indeed. It seems to capture the spirit, without the commerciaization.

The recordings of mechanical instruments, featured on this disk, come from the collection of Roy Mickleburgh. The collection was sold off after Roy's death, but many fine recordings were produced before the instruments were dispersed.
Instruments featured on 'Enchanted Carols' include: Victorian Music Boxes, Handbells, Barrel Organs, Street Pianos and Church Bells.
During Christmas time, we are often bombarded by a variety of holiday music. Sadly, few recordings we are likely to hear while shopping, will capture the same inventive and whimsical spirit evoked in these works.
Indeed, to maintain any sense of reverence for the holiday at all, in our rabid globally driven market economy, it may be wise to go beyond the well trodden paths and explore unorthodox musical territory.
'Enchanted Carols' remains a first rate example of the possible fruits in choosing such an oblique strategy for the Holiday.

very nice sounds from seldom-heard instruments. All together, the results provide the sort of vague, whistful nostalgia for Christmas as you might get from a flickery silent movie.
