A little TOO short to be enjoyable?

THE ENCHANTED TRUTH was a very quick short story. It encompassed a few fairy tales although its main focus seemed to be The Frog Prince.

How can I review it...? It was so short and I didn't write my review right away so I barely remember any details. It didn't have any specific character names so they blur together. It was more of a modern take on a fairy tale, but I didn't find it that intriguing and it was too short to really make a connection to it, even if it was only a short story.

Overall, the story had a good message which essentially was not to wait around for love to find you and complain about being single. The princess in the story actually had to make a lot of changes to herself before she started finding her "prince" and realize that once she had her own life in order, things started to fall into place on their own. I really liked the message in the story because it's one I fully believe myself! I truly think that unless you're happy with yourself, it'll be difficult to find a partner/significant other and if you keep searching for it, you're hurting your chances to find it because you may be overlooking what's right in front of you. Just one of my personal philosophies!

The novel's blurb above is just about as long as the story itself. It was short and sweet, with no extraneous plots or characters. There's a princess who wants a prince. The fairy godmother shows up and gives her a rubber frog with a hole in the belly. She instructs the princess to write every quality she wants in her perfect man and put the piece of paper inside the frog.

The princess and the fairy godmother were the two main characters, and I believe they had the only dialogue. The princess had a few friends over briefly, she spent a few moments with her mother and she had a few dates, but other than that, it was all princess and godmother, all the time. Just like an actual fairy tale, it was without any real background or histories. The final lesson, which we know the princess will eventually learn, is a valuable lesson for all women. The overall story is cute and sweet, but I felt the moral of the story was a bit obvious and forced.

The only thing that bothered me were the "Princess" variations that were dropped constantly throughout the story.

Every single phrase above was used to describe the princess on just 1 page of the book.

This gift book is a cute story and modern fairytale. What little girl doesn't grow up dreaming about Prince Charming, a knight on a white horse or a frog turned prince with a kiss. As we grow up, reality slaps us in the face, letting us know that men like that simply don't exist, men are human, therefore they are faulted and our grand expectations suddenly seem unreasonable.
This fairytale shows girls of all ages that they carry the power within themselves; they need not rely on a "Prince" to rescue them or take care of them. Kym Petrie hits the nail on the head when she says that we are our own Prince Charming. My daughters have grabbed my Kindle and have sat down to read the story and have enjoyed it, even my eleven year old shouted a, "True that", to Petrie's inspiring tale.

Once Upon A Time...

Yeah, umm hmm. I would be the Fairy Godmother in this tale. That is me, ALL OVER!

The godmother pretty much tells her princess that she must take the time to figure out what she really wants in her forever love. Only when she has figured out ALL of the qualities she desires in a man will she find her true love.

By the end of this tale the Princess finds her true worth and many truths. She went from bratty little I want any man now because any man will do-to- Ms. Mature and Independent.

I recommend this book to EVERYONE! Although this is more of an adult book I can't help but think this book will be picked up by YA's and I wouldn't mind if they did. Too many of the YA's I read are too much about going with the moment instead of stepping back for a minute and giving it a thought or two. It's important to teach our young women to love themselves first and foremost, not to settle, and that love will come, no rush. For the older gals, this book serves as a reminder of what we should already know.
