Cassie and I became friends over the course of her writing this book, and I was one of the privileged few who got to beta read it with her/for her. Cassie, while still honing in on her talent, is an excellent story teller and this book proves it! Her other works are good too, don't get me wrong. But Wilder is her best yet, and there is more to come! She's not done and it's only going to get better from here!
Enchanting Wilder is a story for dreamers with open minds, and a story for lovers of all things supernatural.
We start our meeting Mckenna, a fiery red-head who's just getting by in her life. She's lost, a little depressed, and trying to move on from her parents death. Declan is not your typical "dreamboat" guy. He's really rough around the edges, but Mckenna figures out a way to help soften him up some. The story follows how these two meet in a dream, and are kind of supernaturally forced to meet and their lives collide. Things get hectic from there.
Declan and Mckenna are relationship goals. The romance, the steam, the attraction. It's all there. He's broody, she's kind of a nerd. It just works.
The story starts off a little slow, lots of back story to build this world... but when it takes off, it just doesn't stop. The hits just keep on coming, one surprise after another! It's an amazing roller coaster ride of emotions, creatures, spells and more! I didn't want it to end. At all. I'm so glad this is only book one! She's already working on the sequel and trust me, you're going to want to wait for it! (:
There isn't much this book doesn't have in it - mystery, romance, friendship, snarky banter, family, witches, demons and more! It's an amazing read and Cassie set up such a fun world for us to dwell in! Book two can't come soon enough!
For the audio version:
This book was narrated by a gal named Amelie Brown. The story started off great and I fell very quickly into a connection with her voice and Mckenna. I've read this book's paper copy and Amelie just added that extra oomph to the character. Made her a little more "real" for me. My biggest turn off was the fact that she changed the tamper of her voice to read Declan's chapters (this book is a duel POV), and all I could do was giggle while she did so. It was just a little weird, and I would of definitely preferred her just read in her regular voice, even for the male parts. (This is no reflection on the author's work what so ever... Cassie did an amazing job switching back and forth in her chapters to make Mckenna and Declan both have a different feel, and voice. Overall sound quality was good, and I don't think much was lost in translation during the story, so that's a huge plus.
This was my first book voiced by Brown, and I'm honestly not sure I would want to listen again to a book that she has voice. I enjoyed her reading style and pacing, but her attempt at voicing just didn't do well for me, it was a huge turn off for the male chapters of the book.
I was really excited to meet Declan and McKenna, and I loved all the twists and turns Cassie threw my way! This is the type of story that keeps you guessing! Once it grabbed my hand, it did not let me go! Like some have mentioned, I did find the beginning a little slow. I prefer backstory to be sprinkled throughout the story instead of a large chunk at the beginning, but Cassie's sassy style still made it an enjoyable read. I was really interested in the world she created, and I appreciated her unique approach to some of the usual paranormal tropes. Cassie has created a delightful cast of characters, each with their own flaws, quirks, and secrets. I loved being able to peel back the layers and get to know them better. Character-driven stories are my favorites and this one was no exception! This was a really fun and exciting read for me! I was sad when it was over!
I really enjoyed reading Enchanting Wilder! It was a spellbinding read that I would gladly recommend to my friends! I'm looking forward to the next installment in the series! Especially if it happen to feature a certain broody brother that I'm crushing on! :)
Like a moth to the flame, I was immediately drawn in. From the very first page, Enchanting Wilder is an amazing, emotional roller coaster read. The ups and downs, the twists and turns will have you wishing you wishing you were on this journey with McKenna, Declan, Candy, Wood and Kai. It was incredibly refreshing to read an original story that's unlike any other book in the market right now.
If you're not normally a paranormal reader, please do not let the paranormal aspect of it throw you off. That's not my normal genre. I won't lie, the paranormal aspect is definitely there. But, it just works. It adds to the amazing story. While reading Wilder, I lost sight of the paranormal and focused on the beautiful words on the pages. If you love a good story, this is a book for you!
Books set in New England tend to steal a piece of my heart, but, it's safe to say that this one now has the biggest piece.
I didn't realize this was paranormal , also the very first paranormal story for this author.
Her ideas I love , she wrote an AMAZING STORY for this being her 1st paranormal. The characters were awesome and the story spoke volumes on each character . This book has no cliffhanger , but I'm told will continue on with each character ..... I highly recommend this book , and will definitely read her contemporary romance novels. GOOD READING TO ALL.
