Q: Computer can't recognize the SSD enclosure? For new SSD, You need to go into the disk management and initialize the SSD firstly, then it could be detected and used normally. Please finish disk initialization according to the following steps.

How to start disk management?

Right click "Computer" - "Manage" - "Disk Management". Find your unallocated disk, right click "Unallocated", and choose "New Simple Volume Wizard".

How to start disk management (in windows 10)?

Click Start - Run - type compmgmt.msc - click OK. Alternatively, right-click on the My Computer icon and select 'Manage'. In the console tree, click Disk Management.

Q: Slow Speed Or Did Not Get the Full Speed?

Normally, when connected to a Thunderbolt 3 or USB 3.1 Gen 2 port, you will getting above 600MB/s write and read using the type c cable. Through the USB 2.0/3.0 port, you will getting under 500 MB/s write and read.

The speed performance of read and write may vary based on system hardware, operating system, SSD capacity, Data interface, individual usage pattern and other system variables.

Attention: Our M.2 NVMe enclosure DO NOT compatible with Thunderbolt 2 port even if through a adapter.

Q: Regarding “Format”?

If want to work on both Mac and Windows OS, please choose EXFAT format.

Q: The Enclosure Get Warm? The enclosure does get warmth to touch when in use, but this is due to the nature of the drive. NVME drive run at extreme speeds and get hot. The aluminum case acts as a heat sink and it has Overheating Protection Feature.

The quality of this device isn't really great. The pieces are flimsy and there's no thermal contact between the case and the drive. Also, the USB 3.0 to USB-C cable included has loose contact ends, causing random disconnections which were caused by wiggling. I'm not sure whether the cable ruined my drive or the heat management, but one of the two did, and I cannot get the otherwise brand new drive to work across multiple OS's, hardware interfaces, machines, etc. With certainty it fried an expensive drive.

I used this to prepare a new upgrade NVME disk. I put the new disk in the enclosure (a Samsung EVO), used Samsung's free data migration software to clone it, and then swapped in the cloned drive.

The enclosure works well, don't need any tools to open it. The metal case acts as a heat sink, which is good because some SSDs can get hot.

One key note: it comes with two notched rubber pegs to secure the NVME drive. You only need one, and you need to move it to the correct position for the size of your SSD. By default the pins are in the position for shorter drives. You need to remove both pegs, set one of them aside, and put the other in the semi-circular cutout on the SSD. When you insert the SSD, the peg will line up nicely with one of the holes in the tray.

The correct use and position of the rubber pegs are shown in the photos on the product listing (on this page). Don't try to jam the disk in without putting the pegs in the right place.

Well made but compatibility issues

I really liked and wanted to like this item, but I had issues when using with the Samsung 970 drive and Samsung Magician/Migration software.
FIrst the positives - small, well built, well designed; metal body dissipates the not-inconsiderable heat from the NVME drive; comes with usb-C and regular USB cables (works with both). The case is tool free with a slide lock for the enclosure and with solid pins to cinch down the drive.
The drive was recognized via both USB types, and when using the USBC I copied 60GB in under 30 seconds.

Now the issue: it is known that NVME drives are not always recognized when connected by USB. Others have noted success with samsung magician and migration but I did not have that experience.
Samsung Magician only recognized this drive as "generic." The migration tool did recognize the drive as samsun and ran the transfer, but despite trying 3 times it was never able ot correctly copy the drive (copying from 256GB 960 to 1 TB 970. The copy completed but I could not successfully boot when I put the drive in the PC NVME slot.

Because the enclosure was so nice I thought that I would just use the drive + enclosure as an external drive, but because I could not get the software to work to manage things like overprovisioning I decided to return.
Again, I think this product (the enclosure) is great but as of today (12/20) I had compatibility issues with the Samsung software.

Good Value - Get thermal tape

PROS: Fast Read/Write Speed over 865mbs using C-port to C-port (10gbs port). And half 460mbs speeds using USB 3.0 to C-port (5Gbs port). - Still better price and speed then off the shelf external ssd's. . CONS: All external m.2 adapters I found run super Hot! This has a few vents on front but you will need a piece of thermal tape to be able to hold. SPEEDS BOTTLENECK DOWN FROM A 3000MBS EVO card but the 800-1000mbs is about the best speed available in a external ssd/10mbs corded case like this. . CONCLUSION: Worth the $20 but if you dont plan on using it with a 10gbs/ c-port from your PC (USB 3.0 or less) you will only get 450mbs of speed no matter how fast your ssd is. As off the shelf external ssds run 10x cooler and lighter at roughly the same 450mbs Cap.

This adapter works very well. It was pretty easy to install the SSD into the adapter and didn’t require any tools. I had a bit of difficulty pushing the SSD into the pins of the adapter, but after realizing I needed to push at an angle, it worked much better. I was able to get a read speed of 1000MB/s with this adapter using the USB-C cable with my SSD that has a 1700MB/s read speed when installed in the computer, so the adapter is very fast. The read speed with the USB-A cable was only 500MB/s, so you should use the USB-C cable if you can.

I had a spare 500GB NVME drive that I wasn't sure what I was going to do with. I saw this and thought - Why don't I make a large portable flash drive? So far I've I've tested with 2 different PCs. My main system has a USB-C port and I put a few large files onto there. I took less than 2 minutes. The same transfer with the USB-A cable, took almost twice as long. I had one hiccup where the first transfer came to a halt, but I'm pretty sure it was the cheap no name NVME drive that I put in it. After just restarting the transfer it worked fine. I then attached it to an old laptop that only has USB3 with the supplied cable. It saturated the USB3 speeds easily. Installation of the drive wasn't bad at all.

Overall I would recommend this Enclosure to anyone that needs an inexpensive way to make an nvme drive into a portable storage unit.

I had bought a 2 TB Samsung 970 Evo for an Alienware laptop. I eventually returned the laptop but couldn't return the drive. So I bought this enclosure thinking I could make use of the drive for now. On my 2020 Mac air the drive speed test showed 26MB/s read and write (estimate). This computer has a thunderbolt 3 connection so I'm not sure why its so slow. I also used CC cloner to clone a backup drive (Samsung T7 ssdI I had and the nvme enclosure drive consistently stayed at 26 MB/s. This is pretty terrible given the drive inside. yes it will be slower because of the enclosurel but it shouldn't be that slow. I should still be getting 500MB/s. I tried switching it with the Samsung T7 cable which gets 1000MB/s and it made no difference it was still 26MB/s. Worse is its not aluminum its plastic so no thermal help so it gets scorching hot. I had to put a fan on it so it didn't kill my drive. I would look elsewhere for an aluminum enclosure.

First used a WD Black in it and it worked for about a week. Added the drive to my second slot on my PC and it has worked as expected. Bought another drive (WD Blue) and it wont initialize. Tried it on my other PC and same thing. Tried it with my laptop....same thing. Take your chances or find another solution.
Edit, after being contacted by the seller I went thru some trouble shooting with them. They gave me a choice of refund or another enclosure. I chose another enclosure because it seems to work for most buyers. I will update after is receive the new enclosure. I upgraded to 3 stars because the customer service was prompt in coming up with a solution.
Edit: Received a replacement enclosure today. From opening the box to formatting the new drive took about 2 minutes. No issues. Copied a 17GB folder in just over 1 minute. Great customer service...and I now have a working enclosure.

Unusable due to overheating issue

NVMe was easy to install and showed up immediately when plugged into PC. Unfortunately, enclosure heated up very quickly during file transfer and overheated repeatedly. Completely useless if it can't stand up to a couple minutes of file transfer before overheating. Just out of curiosity, I strapped a heatsink I had lying around onto the top of the enclosure and performed additional tests. Enclosure and heatsink heated up but file copy was stable for extended periods. This enclosure is very poorly designed and not worth the money.

I don’t write many reviews on here come on here and write one is rare indeed.

First off; it was easy to install and put together with the NVME drive. However that’s where the fun ended.
After installing the drive I couldn’t get it to read on any of my macs, so I tried 2 pc’s incase it was a Mac issue. No dice. I tried with a second drive and still nothing. A few hours later I tried a final attempt on my MacBook. Finally it appeared. I thought my troubles are over… boy was I wrong. After 4-9 minutes the device would disconnect and I was back at square one trying to get it to appear back on my Mac or pc. 10 min later (after it cooled down) it would appear again. Basically every time I tried to back up my ssd it would overheat and disconnect. After 4 attempts I decided to stop as I didn’t want to damage the drive. I’m returning it today and trying my luck with another brand. Fingers crossed. I’m happy for those of you who it works for. I just wish it worked for me.

Hi All, the enclosure for the NVME drive is very good. I was able to install the drive super fast once I finally received my NVME drive of course. Once I had the drive I plugged it in and I noticed that the performance was sub optimal and was no where near the theoretical max for a USB C NVME enclosure. I proceeded to do a full format on the NVME drive. That took a long time but helped gain some performance. I was getting around 150 mb/sec after that but it still was not fast enough for my liking so I figured there must be something wrong. I ordered a Short USB C Cable, CableCreation USB C to USB C 3.1 Gen 2 Cable and once I plugged it in ( a picture of it was uploaded with my review). I subsequently performed another test using the new cable and was now getting 450 mb/sec. Looks like the cables that come with this enclosure are not high quality. With regards to the heat on the enclosure it seemed nominal and I am happy with the performance at this point. Anyways for the price I still think it was worth it.
