The only reason why I'm rating this four stars is because I had a little trouble installing it on my laptop. It would have been nice if they let me know I had to use the dashboard to get the game to work.
Other than that, everything is just fine. The game works well.

First off, I am not much of a gamer. I have played
Lord of the Rings The Return of the King
and
Diner Dash 1 and 2 Pack
but that is the extent of my gaming.
Until Fate.
Some time ago, I bought a new laptop that came with several demo games. About two weeks ago, I decided to finally start playing some of them. I installed and played Fate and became addicted.
The game is so interactive and fun. Even in the demo mode, I could still find things to do (although I never leveled up). Now that I have the full version, I find myself spending tons of time weaving through levels and collecting items.
The game is very simple. You chose your character (male or female with name) and pet (dog or cat with name). Then you interact with the townsfolk to accept missions into the dungeon. In the dungeon, you complete the mission and return to town to collect the fame, experience, and reward (sometimes a better weapon, armor, or jewelry). Eventually, you must defeat the final villain given to you at the beginning of the game.
If you are not a gamer, you will probably like (like me). If you are a so-so gamer (like my sister), you will probably like. If you are a hard-core gamer, you will probably like.
The only problem? When am I going to find enough time to play?

I was first introduced to FATE when I bought a new computer and it had a demo on it that allowed me to go down 3 levels. I was hooked. I tried the demo on line and decided I had to get this game to see what lay beyond. This is the first game I have ever bought and I'm over 50 - so what does that tell you? At any rate - It has 4 phases - each one getting progressively more difficult with Quests you agree to take on in order to gain more gold and fame. I'm currently stuck at level 32 at the Page level and while frustrated beyond belief - I'm a prisoner of competition with myself and the game of FATE. You can change the characters and decide what weapons to use; there are magical spells you can use (if you can figure out how to use them); decide when to go back to town (so long as you have a town portal book or scroll), gain healing charms to prolong your life, change your weapons and armour as your strength and magical levels increase; decide when to go fishing to pull either fish or jewels or weapons out of the pond - but beware - the enemy - who takes many forms, may sneak up on you causing you to perish; having then to decide to leave your gold behind and be transported back to town or a different level, pay the master a sum to be healed and transported to a different level that may be higher or lower than where you currently are, or forfeit some of your skill level to be healed and remain where you are to continue the struggle for a successful Quest. My only negative comment is that there is no booklet to read to refresh your memory or teach you how to do certain things. You more or less are left to your own devices to figure out what to do and when. Yet - I do not regret puchasing the game of FATE. It is quite addictive.

Bought this for my grandson, who loves the original version, but was not able to play it on his computer; just when he came to visit us. So found this one for sale. It works fine, and he's having a great time!!

Assuming you've already read more detailed reviews than is necessary, I will concentrate my review on my personal experience with the Cheats available on the net for this game.
There are hundreds out there. The problem, once you've been bitten by using even one cheat, you'll be tempted to use and try even more.
Once you've got a sword that can do incredible things, you'll want better armor, more equipment, and so forth. Then you'll want to explore the inner rooms where you can get all manner of things, to money, books, you name it.
Slowly everything changes. You're practically invincible.
My advice: Try to play the game sans any cheats for as long as possible. You will learn so much before you finally take on a cheat.
There are forums available on the net where you can read other people's experiences and how they got around or solved a puzzle. There are almost limitless caves to explore.
So large in scale, I finally had to purchase a notebook to keep records, and I don't know how one could avoid it.
