I bought this game many years ago back in my Windows 98 days, and it was responsible for hours of family fun. I couldn't play it on my last computer--it crashed it all the time, so when I finally replaced that desktop, I decided to track down the latest version suitable for Windows 7, and downloaded it from the Encore site.

First of all, as has been mentioned, it took literally hours to download this product. I don't know exactly how long, because I couldn't sit there all day watching it so I had to abort it once, and then start it again another day, and I just left it, went to work, and came back and it was more or less complete. I downloaded Windows 7 and installed it in about a half hour. How could this program take so much longer? It was insane.

Then the first few times I opened the program and started the face maker, it crashed the computer. For whatever reason, that doesn't seem to happen anymore, but it was frustrating.

I really miss the Let it Ride game that was available in earlier versions. I do not understand why they'd replace a great interactive game like that with a few different mindless slot machines. I see Caribbean Stud is gone too, and although I didn't like that one as much, it was still a better game than all these extra slot machines are. And then with all that, the video poker is no better than it was before.

It's still kind of fun, but nothing like the magic of the earlier versions. They've taken away rather than added anything in the latest version.

Back in the 90's I was an avid Hoyle Casino fan. It gave me great practice before my Vegas trips and I could set myself up for my budget to see how well I could do. Other than the fact that it wouldn't run in the graphics mode of my machine, I still loved it. It was solid and I could sit and play for hours.

Fast forward 15 years... I hadn't played Hoyle after quite some time and after getting back into some of the card games on Facebook, I figured I would get the latest version of Hoyle. It was an incredibly long download from their site (an hour or more for only 1.5 gig), which then said that it required the Direct X 2010 FULL SDK to install. So then I had to wait another half hour to an hour for the installer to go and download that and install it. I literally sat in my living room and watched a movie while this thing got all of its pieces together. I was stunned to see it install the full SDK instead of just the latest runtime. Needless to say, I figured if I had to go through all of that and install the latest SDK, this should be awesome.

So when I fired it up, I couldn't believe what I saw. Not only does this software utilize nothing from the latest direct X, it hasn't changed the interface one bit, other than removing all the cool stuff that was in my version back in the 90's. Things like looking down on the casino floor and walking around to the different games and rooms (yeah, that's gone). The graphics and audio are exactly the same with the same 8-bit avatars and the same dealer and player voices, which are now full of static because I thing they are like 4 or 8k mono sound files. Nothing was updated, other than the fact that it is now completely buggy and can't figure out what money I am supposed to be betting and then placing it where I didn't click.

What a huge disappointment this game is. Previous versions of this game were so much fun. This version is no fun whatsoever. You used to be able to walk around the casino and choose what games to play. In this version, there is a very boring main menu where you choose the game to play. Also, the game opens up in a very small window and is not friendly to big displays. Installation took forever and I have a quad core computer with 8 GB of memory. No Caribbean Stud, Let it Ride or a Poker Room are just a few of the games that are missing. Save your hard earned money on this one. This is $20 I will never see again.

The software would lock up continually. Reloaded and had no better results. The craps table did not correctly register the chip placement and would therefore not pay out correctly. Disappointing to say the least. Would not recommend this product.

The CD wouldn't load. I tried four times on two different computers. Then, it finally loaded partially but the games would get stuck in a loop. A pop-up would appear that says the program has stopped running and it bombed off. Worse, I couldn't UNINSTALL it! It took three tries to dump it off the computer. The tech support people don't pick up. I was on hold for more than 20 minutes. I got this because I'm running Windows 7 and I don't see anything else out there. But the software sucks and I'm disappointed.

I purchased this program because I am trying to learn Texas Hold'em -- overall the game is pretty interesting but for the life of me I cannot remember what cards I fold and I always wish I knew after they are gone. I like the animation and a lot of the chatter is funny but some of itis quite dumb. The tutorial just sits there in Hold'em -- I had hoped it would have some sugestive notes to help me learn the game bu so far I have seen nothing from it.
I tried one of the online Hold'em places and it allows you to look back at your folded cards -- and even though I am not allowed to play real money I find the play money games to be much more helpful than this one.
The main benifit of this game is it works when the internet is down.....

I also tried balckjack and it is relatively realistic so a fair game to use to practice during learning blackjack.

I also tried slots and they are unbelievably loose, they are a good way to build up your bank account if you get low on chips. And some of the background music choices are quiet annoying.
