This was a fun book to read, liked the characters and the story. I think that the author could have done some more research on the military before writing the book. Being ex-military, I can tell you that non-coms do not fly choppers, officers do. The helicopter pilot never gets out and engages the enemy, they drop your team off and then fly away to a safe place.....that way they can pick you up when you're done. There is almost always a pilot and a copilot not to mention door gunners and a crew chief...they stay with the chopper. Much of the time in a hot lz the helicopter does not land, you rappel out or jump about 3 feet to the ground. The smallest active unit is a fire team which is 4-5 soldiers, an officer would not be present unless a platoon sized unit was working and that would be a lieutenant in charge. A fire team or a squad would have a sergeant in charge. A major would probably not be caught dead with just 2 men helping him out in a combat situation. Anyway I could go on and on here but I don't have the room or the time. Next novel, pick up the basic infantryman's guide and look at it to help you out. Ok? Otherwise, it was a fun read.

This is not a bad book, it has fairly interesting characters and a lot of exciting and gory action. There are some editing problems but not too many. As other reviewers have pointed out the author makes innumerable mistakes regarding the military that really take away from the story. There are almost too many to mention but for instance the semi-automatic setting on an M16 does not fire three-round bursts (the automatic setting does), Sergeants do not pilot helicopters, Privates do not call Majors by their first name, Captain and Lieutenant are not equal ranks,...I could go on but why bother. The author writes quite well, although seems to have some trouble describing up close zombie action. Overall though not a bad read and I would be willing to give this author another try, if only he reads up a little on the military.

What a delightful romp through the world of the risen dead! Pat has thrown it all to the wind and given us a zombie book where there is no mercy and everybody (EVERYBODY!!!) gets eaten! There is a plot but it's less important than the continuous action and riveting detail. You'll smell the blood, the decay and maybe whatever it was you ate last. This is a great book, especially considering it's his first foray into writing a novel. If he could incorporate this much gore into his music he'd force Gwar into retirement.

so while some of the things said are true, military pilots don't leave their vehicles, there are no flaethrowers currently, i think some of that should be suspended for a ZOMBIE novel. i also don't think that everyone would know that so if it's not common knowledge it shouldn't be expected to be.

This is the kind of zombie book I love to read. It has all the action and violence you could want and the characters are interesting, not just cardboard cutouts or "killer elite" types. They have depth and you really care for them. Plus, the story zips right along. Before I knew it, I had read nearly half of the book in one setting. So yeah, if you like zombies, you'll like this one a lot.

Overall good story but as mentioned in other reviews a little background into military protocol would have helped. Still good to read but a little unbelievable due to this. Still would recommend if you enjoy zombie books.
