Sage was the new neighbor with a troubled home life and Jolie was the young girl next door who wanted to heal his heart with friendship and hugs. Their friendship was strong, but as often happens when time passes, they each wanted something different from their relationship.
I loved the push and pull of their bond. Sage was the quintessential playboy football player...self-assured, cocky, and a player on the field and off. Otherwise confident, Jolie fears that Sage will break her heart if she lets him get too close. They have great chemistry, and their banter is fun and flirty until it's not... 4.5 Stars!
And don't miss the extended epilogue that's included in the ebook and paperback-- more Vicious and Emilia and a sneak peak into a whole new LJ Shen series!!!
Before starting this, I should preface this by saying this is a novella. I was so excited to start reading this, that fact just kind of blew over my head. It was originally a part of The Team Player Anthology.
Now, with that out of the way, The End Zone was incredibly good. Not that I ever had any doubts, because it was Leigh Shen, but sometimes you never know. The End Zone is a sexy friend to lover’s romance with a smattering of ‘fake’ relationship thrown in. All around, WIN WIN WIN!! Leigh knows how to write about sexy, brooding male heroes and this one is no exception.
Sage and Jolie (JoJo) have known each other since they were kids (about ten years old), when Sage moved into the house next door to Jolie. Night after night, Jolie saw a boy her age frustrated, angry and sad with his surroundings. One night, she couldn’t stand to see him in pain anymore and decided to run to him. That is the beginning of their story.
“And on the eighth night, the girl gave the boy more than friendship and a hug, without even meaning to—and definitely without agreeing to. On the eighth night, the girl gave the boy her heart. He took it silently, never offering his back.”
Present day, Sage and Jolie are seniors in college. Sage is a brooding, cocky, know it all manwhore. He is the rising quarterback that is headed off to the NFL, but where does his relationship with Jolie go? Jolie is a studious, super sweet girl that has been harboring feelings for her best friend. Things change on one fateful night that involves Jolie and a bathroom and a lightbulb moment in Sage’s head.
This book, even as a novella, is everything. I loved that interaction between Sage and Jolie, from friendship at the beginning to more. I would LOVE more of these two, but given that it’s written by Leigh, I would always want more. There friends to lover’s romance is written extremely well, although slightly fast paced. This is strictly due to the nature of the book, a novella. There are SO many goodies in this book, that I can’t talk about, but will say we get multiple HEA epilogues and not necessarily all concerning Sage and Jolie. Do yourself a favor and pick this hot, spicy, funny and sweet little read up. There are so many great hilarious quotes in this book it will have you chuckling! Leigh Shen does not disappoint.
“He is the kid I fell in love with at the age of ten, and the man I would give the world to at the age of twenty.”
Some more memorable quotes:
“If he were any other guy, I’d be all over him like a rash after a torrid Vegas vacation.”
“…considering how Sage’s dick has been passed around like community property. I’m surprised he’s not partly funded by the government.”
Sage and Jolie have known eachother half their lives. Best friends who became roommates in college.
They met when they were both ten years old and Sage moved in next door. And the night they met, such a poignant and sweet moment.
Now graduation from college is around the corner and Sage has an epihany. He’s always been a manwhore but that’s about to change. He decides to talk Jolie into being his fake girlfriend, just until school ends.
Sometimes best friends become perfect lovers. It was short and full of hot and sexy moments. Sage and Jolie had chemistry in spades! A great read that I thoroughly enjoyed!
My favorite stories have always been those of best friends who fall in love, now add one of the best authors and perfect formula.
The stories of Leigh always hook you from the first page, I do not know how she does but, they always have all the elements to make you devour them in an instant and this was no exception, sexy, fun, tender, romantic, hot, with that unique touch that the author gives to her readings. And especially in this one, I love the tenderness of the characters, it made me squeeze the heart.
I loved, I loved the prologue, it still makes me weep, it's one of the best prologues I've read.
In this novel, we got to meet Sage and Jolie. They are best friends since they were 10 years and now in college they are roommates.
Sage is the quarterback of his team, and his description only made me drool uncontrollably, (like all Leigh's male characters), sexy, hot, the wet dream of any woman, needless to say that he has all the women at his feet already passed by more than half of the female population.
The man looks like the love child of Matthew Noszka and James Dean.
Jolie is a beautiful girl who is always there to support Sage.
They are attracted to each other, but they fear to destroy their friendship if they act on it, above all, Jolie, thinks that since Sage is a manwhore he will not take her seriously.
But, the attraction is undeniable, and boom explodes in such a way, that you will love the scenes between the characters, sexy, hot, spontaneous combustion.
I love the friendship between them, how they protect and take of each other's back, I love the way they know and know everything about each other. I loved how Leigh handled the times and despite being short gave us glimpses of their past and how the relationship between the protagonists evolved. I loved Sage's overprotection for Jojo. And the unconditionality of both.
And I loved that epilogue. I would have loved a little more of the two of them.
If you like short, sexy love stories with friends this is perfect for you.
You will really love extended epilogues. I loved knowing more about Jolie and Sage, they are so cute together, knowing about their life beyond was a bonus to the beautiful story that Mrs. Shen had given us in the anthology.
But in addition to giving us an extended epilogue of Vicious, Emilia and their family was the best gift the author could give us. I completely loved this epilogue and I fell more in love with Vicious and the couple. But I loved Vaughn, oh God I feel like a pervert but I think I'll like him more than Vicious, of course I screamed like crazy with surprise at the end, my dream come true and I can not wait for 2019.
