But beyond the shining trappings is a much darker reality
I do not want to give any spoilers - That little edge of fear that rides your spine as you wade through the unknown is what makes this story so captivating. I was afraid to turn the page at the same time I wanted to peek at the next scene
Lisa has been stripped of her self, secluded and molded carefully over time by Mark to be his perfect trophy, his toy- to dress and play with as he pleases - but what happens when you push the human psyche too far?
Terrified of the next "adventure" and needing to escape Lisa turns to Grayson - an enigmatic bachelor who re-ignites her inner fire - for help. Will he accept her offer? Will he tell Mark? Can she survive this?
I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series

This was a new to me author and I was excited to be given the chance to read this book. I enjoyed the chemistry between Will and Lisa and would definitely recommend this to anyone who likes a little mystry and a lot of heat.

Its been a while sense I pick up a book that was a captivating as this one.Some reviewer wanted to slap Lisa,but when you are mentally and emotionally abused we don't know we would react.Abuse is real don't think its not.Here" you see a woman from the outside to have it all,women would envy her because they didn't know the truth,the beautiful house was her prison,the handsome boyfriend her jailor and herself if only they knew her life was little more than slavery"(the authors words )When the person thought had your back but turned out to be the one to take every thing from you even your dreams,where do you go from here.I don't know but i'm about to pick up book2 and find out.PICK UP THE BOOK PEOPLE YOU CAN'T GO WRONG.

I stumbled across this book by accident - it was mentioned in a Twitter conversation. The author's name caught my eye as it is Irish - but I assumed he/she (I wasn't sure at the time) was American as 'Cleary' is more commonly an Irish surname. I decided to look it up - the synopsis of the plot sounded interesting, so I bought it for my Kindle. Anyway, it turns out that Cleary is a 'she' - this is her first book - and it's very good. She's not American - and the book is set in London. Yes, it is sexually explicit - so don't buy it as a gift for the 12 year old or your Granny...though maybe you have a very enlightened Granny?! However, it is also a very good, if unusual, love story - and the ending has left me wanting more. Happily the author's notes confirm that a sequel is due in 2016 so hopefully I won't have to wait too long. In essence it is a story about a woman - Lisa - who has allowed her own personality, talent, indeed her entire life be subsumed into the needs and desires of her 'boyfriend', Mark. I use the word boyfriend advisedly as he is neither a boy nor a friend to her. She then meets another man - a warm, kind and loving man but their initial meeting is in weird and rather horrible circumstances. In Grayson she finds a potential soul mate, but right now she can only see him as a potential means of escape. Their relationship is built on mutual physical attraction - but underlying this is a belief that there could be more, if circumstances would only allow. It will be interesting to see if Ms James is able to build on that 'maybe' in the next book. I will be looking forward to finding out.

Really enjoyed this book. The characters are well fleshed out and interesting. It makes you think about the dynamics of abusive relationships and how they come to be. How women slowly get indoctrinated into thinking if they were just better, more perfect, more something..... and the logistics of actually getting out of such a relationship. Well done. Looking forward to next book.

And when Mark takes Lisa to an unconventional dinner party, her world turns upside down. It's a story with memorable characters and has abuse, dominance, heartache and secrets. Lisa's story does continue in book two, Playing By Heart.
