This is the best Sally Nimitz yet. The story never flagged, not ever, and I enjoyed Sally's increased savvy. And while it never descended into mayhem, there was a lovely suspense all the way through. I loved it! Every bit was valuable. By that I mean there were no long passages about a how a person was dressed or an office appointed - just the right amount of detail to enrich the scene. The way the characters rehashed the progress kept me in the loop. It was not overdone but perfect. I always go to bed by 8 or 9 pm but last night it was 11:30 before I put down the book-
My impression is that MaryJo Dawson has taken a quantum leap in authorship. She should be charging more for her books - seriously!
If you like a cosy mystery, then the Sally Nimitz series is for you. There is no gratuitous violence, no bad language, no sex scenes. Just a good mystery with likeable characters and an interesting story-line.
Sally is an obstetrics nurse, George a telecommunications technician, and Anne is retired. Together they combine to form a formidable force - one that can nut out possible solutions to crime, then set about to solve the mystery.
In 'Ending the Varney Curse', Sally is asked to slip away from her job for a few days to take care of an elderly lady, the matriarch of a shipping family, whose regular caregiver is indisposed. But that is not Sally's primary role, a role she cannot divulge to anyone. She can't even reveal to her partners in crime-solving where she is going or why. And while the assignment goes smoothly at the time, it will have repercussions, and Sally and her friends find themselves involved in an investigation where Sally is unable to reveal all she knows.
3.5 very twinkly stars for 'Ending the Varney Curse' by MaryJo Dawson.
Thank you to author MaryJo Dawson for a digital ARC of 'Ending the Varney Curse' in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
