Best of Match Game DVD Collection

This is a fun party game, especially for people of the generation that watched this gameshow on TV back in the 70's. I was a little disappointed the music wasn't the funkiest version, but a tamer one. It also felt a little slow paced. Not sure why there are freeze frames of the panel members- you hear the audio but their image is frozen- a minor distraction.

There are 25 versions to play- once you've done them all you're not likely to play any of them again so this is perhaps good for one or two (drinking) games- still making it a good value.

We've had 4 game nights lately, with Match Game being the overall winner for favorite game (in fact- we had to play it at EACH game night.) Seeing Charles, Brett, and of course Betty in all their Match Game glory is something we can't get enough of. The music isn't the original music- but it's definitely caught the spirit of the show's music. We only wish there were more versions, and that the slow, slow, slow scoring process could be turned off so we can manually score (which we do - typically we have more than 6 players joining the fun.)

Other than the fact that it can be a little difficult to match some of the answers because it is dated, it is a really fun version of Match Game, the TV gameshow. My daughter and I really liked it. We liked the fact that you could use your own answers and imagination. It's really fun.

My youngest sister got hooke don Match Game reruns on the Game Show Network so I bought her this for Christmas. She loves to play and we had a blast playing as a family on Xmas Day. The only thing that bugs me about it is that the celebrity replies are not video, nor is Gene Rayburn's hosting. It's audio over a quick slideshow of pictures of whoever is speaking. While it is fine for what it is, I would have preferred live video. That aside, if you enjoy watching Match Game you should pick this up.

I purchased this game around the time it came out. Gene Rayburn is your host (natch), and it features celebs and questions from the actual show. However, a few things differ from the actual show. For one thing, only five celebs are featured in each game, not six. Another thing, while Rayburn is shown with actual clips, the celebs are only shown with still pictures with the audio. The Super Match comes at the end of the first round, and the one with the most matches at the end of the second round gets to play the "Head to Head" match with one celeb. The celeb differs with every game, and it's not always Richard Dawson.

It looks like the games used are from the "Match Game '74" era. The questions aren't as wordy or naughty as they became later on in the series. There are 25 games included on the DVD. Once you go through them, you start repeating. Since the answers are from the show, they don't change. So you can memorize them, which makes the replay value of the games predictable. If you're a fan of the 70s Match Game, you'll enjoy playing this. It's largely a trip down memory lane, and they have a lot of celebs on the clips.

If you are a Match Game fan, you will love this game! There are only 25 games so that is the down side. But the little marker boards that come with it could be used if you decide to play along while watching Match Game on the GSN (Game Show Network). It plays an actual clip of Gene reading the question but when the celeb reads the answer they do little picture clips. Still a great look back at the 70s!

When it comes to game shows on GSN, Match Game has been ranked #1 according to their 2006 countdown of the 50 greatest game shows of all time. Nevertheless, it has been a very long time since Match Game has been available as a home edition. sadly though, the home edition doesn't really feel like it is anything exciting. Instead of developing a new rendidtion, the DVD game uses clips from the old 70's and 80's versions that were broadcasted on CBS and syndication years ago. The feeling of this game, really isn't a must buy for anyone who loves a great laugh from the actual game show. You really are better off getting GSN on cable, and watch the actual reruns itself. You'll have a much more fun time.

The first thing that hit me when I first played this game was that the original (and very catchy) 70's theme music isn't used here. Video is very limited and the game tends to favor voice overs of the guest panelist to their photos. Some of this was probably to ensure footage wasn't showing the original contestants.

Game players write down responses on their own dry erase boards to various "fill in the blank" questions ("Dumb Dora was so dumb, she used her hairbrush on her blank"). Most open the door to innuendo. Although I remember watching this on TV as a kid, I wouldn't call this a "family game."

You select one of several "games" from the DVDs menu, which suggests that the replay value is going to be low. Questions aren't mixed probably because the actors on the panel changed through the years.

Overall it's a good party game, but not something you could probably play with your spouse/partner on a regular basis.
