Clear your throat and drink that honey-lemon tea: It's time to play Encore, the game of dueling larynxes. The goal is to come up with a song that contains particular words--and then sing lines from the song that contains those words. Here's how it works: The first team turns up a card featuring five words; the two teams then take turns singing at least six words of any song that contains one of those five. The round continues until one team is stumped, which, if the word is "love," could take a while. But repetition is not allowed, and for every "said" and "moon," there's a "highway" or "piano"--whaddya do when you've exhausted the Billy Joel songbook? And it's great to draw a lyric that's in a song title, but if you don't know five others that come after, you'll be like the player who drew "nice"; he spent the entire run of the sand timer with his shoulders hunched like Sinatra because he couldn't connect "and let's make all the stops along the way" with the song's title, "Nice 'N' Easy." Oh, and don't play Encore with Renaissance Faire actors--when they draw the word "lady," they'll come up with an inexhaustible supply of 15th-century madrigals. Only after they've won will you discover that they were all bogus. --Tony MasonSee all Product description

The best part about this game, in my opinion, is that you really can play it with anyone. I was introduced to this game many many years ago in music class in middle school, but I've played it with a group of all ages at church, at a college party, with my family, with my coworkers during lunches, etc. It also is easy enough that if you have kids who are old enough to remember lyrics to songs (even in part), they can join in, at least to an extent. This flexibility lends the game to be a frequent gift idea for me for multiple occasions.
The game isn't in a flimsy cardboard box like many current games. There's not really much else to say about the box itself, though.
I highly recommend this game to anyone and everyone who remotely likes music.
The board is rather small, but still takes roughly an hour to get through. You roll a die, land on a color, draw a card, and have to sing at least 6 words of a song that contain the word on the card. It's harder than you think! Words like "him" or "with" tend to briefly stump you after one or two songs (words that aren't the focus of the song don't stick out in your mind and are hard to think of on a 20 second clock). My little guy can play on a team with an extended timer, and the older family members can play 1 on 1. Things tend to get loud after one or two rounds, with much laughter and demands to name the song/artist to prevent cheating.
We do have a few house rules adjusting the official rules. For example, we use the 20 second timer EVERY turn to speed the game up, rather than starting the timer when we think the other team is stumped. As for needing to land on the Grand Finale with an exact roll... No, I don't think so. It gives the other team a chance to catch up if they're behind, but it takes forever and it is possible to end up with both teams just rolling to try and hit the Finale.
