The Captain of the good space ship, Endurance, is a somewhat flawed officer. He usually does what's right, but seldom what's correct. His first officer is into reading the literary classics... and big guns. The armaments officer, well, she's shy. She can't shoot at someone if they're looking at her and she cumpulsively hides whenever she can. The 102 year-old janitor has a thing for his nearly as old vacuum cleaner. The rest of the crew are as strange as these. They're all bottled up in a small starship... so anything coukd go south at a moment's notice. Luckily, they not only survive, they thrive.
This story is so well written that these misfits begin to feel normal, whereas the normal folks appear to be a bit thick. This cast of characters quickly find themselves in one pickle after another, but always seem to pull through with panache, by working together and depending on one another.
I found this to be quite a fun book to read. It's a fast story with heroes and villians galore. The plot covers the mundane right up to interstellar war. This is a great read. The author has done a bang-up job here. Give her your support.
The book was a great read....fast but still nicely comprehensive . There were no real sudden surprise "Where did that come from?" moments. It followed it's path well although kind of predictable at times. Readers need to be shaken around a bit to hold their interest over many pages. Some of us have somewhat stunted attention spans particularly when things aren't all about us. Fortunately for me this was one of those books in which the author created that special place that allowed me to "be" part of the story.

It is definitely Not "Star Trek". No "prime directive" to get in the way.
