BUT - Maffetone's training method works. Take the time to build your aerobic engine and you will soon be running (biking, rowing...) circles around the athletes who only training high intensity. It's important to note that Maffetone is not against high intensity training - it just needs to be in its place - on top of a well-developed aerobic engine. Read the book, take the time and build your aerobic engine. You will not regret it.
For me that would mean running at a HR of 127. That means running at 10:00/mile. My marathon pace is 6:51/mile. How on earth can running all my runs at 10:00 make me faster?? It can’t.
What this book is useful for is the newbie. Someone with no running history. Follow this method and you will get faster. In fact try my method. Just run how you feel. Guess what? The newbie will get faster.
There’s a reason the front and back cover and the description don’t mention the “method”, because it doesn’t work. They trick you into buying the book, which is extremely low quality by the way. The pages are tissue paper thin and the type is a bit blurry.
The only thing I agree with is his LCHF ideals because his and my definitions of Aerobic and Anaerobic are polar opposites.
The book helps in understanding the differences between the roles of the aerobic and anaerobic systems in run training.
The book is easy to follow, and the method is clearly described. It may not be for everyone, but for now, it is the method for me.

All in all I am still a firm believer of the Maffetone method, but I just bought and received 'The Big Book of Endurance Training and Racing" in the hopes I will find what I first expected: an organized way of training that I can implement not only while training but also in everyday living.
Few authors at today can match his knowledge and the way he exposes his ideas which reach you simply and directly.
Great help also for data-oriented athletes.
