I have to admit Rhys was a hard man to warm up to...or perhaps questionable...in his treatment of Rebecca. Still, during that era, men were encouraged to move on after the death of a spouse and Rhys did. Or at least he thought so until he learned she hadn't died. How he handled Rebecca's reappearance was unexpected yet deep down I think it was his way of handling the surprise and wrestling with his own conscience. Here he was...finally getting his life on track after losing his wife (so he thought) and suddenly he finds out she's alive! Imagine the emotional upheaval involved, let alone trying to decide what the right path to take might be under such circumstances.
Life was so much harder then and people held their emotions with a tight fist so Rhys struggled with the conflict between propriety and his own feelings. In the end, he came to terms with his heart and where it was anchored - you'll have to read it to know what that means. The resolution was unexpected for me and done incredibly well. I applaud Wareeze for having the courage to write a piece that makes the reader wrestle with their own feelings of personal happiness vs. family responsibility as these characters find their happy ever after. Well done.
