The headline for my review has no bearing on the actual story in Enemy at the Gates. Rather, like other reviewers, the end if too abrupt. It leaves way too many questions unanswered leading obviously to book #21. For readers wondering, I did look at book #22 due out in mid-2023, and the synopsis on Amazon APPEARS to have no resemblance to books 20 and 21. We'll see if the plot in #20 end at #21. As said already, too many unanswered questions at the end of #20.

Another reviewer of Enemy at the Gates, Duane Robinson writing in July 2022, seemed to sum up Enemy at the Gates quite well. Aside from the questions remaining at the end of the book, the book does raise many questions about power, politics, loyalty, democracy, etc. One perhaps wonders the direction we are headed!

I have been a fan of the Mitch Rapp series for a very long time. This book was a very good story with all of the complexity and thrills of this series, but. I'll get to the but in a minute. Most of this book takes place in Africa - Uganda and South Africa and involves an unbelievably wealthy man, a brilliant young researcher (funded by the wealthy man) and a war between financial power and political power. Also thrown into the story are problems revolving around oil, pandemics and betrayal at many levels.

And then comes the but. As many reviewers have said - the end is not really an end. It is clear that the next book in the series is going to have to be the answer to many lingering issues. Also, and more disturbing for me, the book raised too many questions about where loyalty resides - whether it is necessarily reliable - and how much power should be left in the hands of politicians. Also - how much power should rest in the hands of one unbelievably wealthy person. The book doesn't give answers, but it raises so many questions that probably cannot be answered. As I said - this story left me seriously unsettled. But it was definitely interesting and complex enough to keep me reading late into the night.

I’ve been a committed fan all along so the disappointment is real. Utterly weird plot. New world order / old world order nonsense and I wasn’t entirely sure what the point of it all was. And nothing in the world is going to convince me that Mike Nash would turn traitor because he wants to be on the side of those in power who believe the muggles of the world need hardship and something to struggle against and he wants to be protected from the mob of humanity when it all gets too much. It really is as bonkers as that.

Unfortunately the original author has passed away but he built a few years creating an amazing character I could never put one of his book down I was so disappointed reading enemy at the gate it’s not Vince Flynn it’s not Mitchell rapp and by the way I love the character Mitch rapp so much I named my dog Mitch now I’ve read enemy at the gate I feel that’s probably the last time I’m going to buy Another book miss you vince

Kyle Mills has really assumed the mantel of Vince Flynn's series so well. He has kept a good pace with Mitch Rapp's evolving life personally and professionally and has really developed the character. This book, though still based around his relationship with Irene and the US government, sees him mainly in Africa which provides some fresh material and a new perspective which was welcome and refreshing given this is the 20-something book in the series. I continue to enjoy the Mitch-based high speed black ops tales and would recommend the series all the way through, from both writers.

I’ve read them all and even enjoyed the ones following the transition after Vince Flynn sadly passed away. And I liked this on to. It jumped about the world as usual with Mitch carrying out his usual activities with no problems about expense or access to anything he needed. Unbelievable of course but still a good, pacy read. In fact it went very well until the rather silly end. After all those novels such a traitorous action would never have happened between such two combatants. It just wouldn’t. That spoiled it for me. Such a poor end.

Set outside of usual CIA/government environment, more independent, ageing and with doubts.
Chases down an African Dictator operating independently with Scott Coleman and his team.
Stretches credibility in some areas.
Not as strong as other novels in the series but passable and good to see Rapp as a character continue and develop into something more normal, ageing, with doubts, conflicting interests etc.
Fans will largely enjoy this short read ideal for the beach etc.
