If you like online First person shooters you should get this. There are many different sort of gameplay.
Disclaimer: I have not played any of the other Quake titles. However, I got the sense that this really didn't matter at all. Anyway, if you're into games that don't waste time with pesky things like "plot" and "character development," you'll be into this. The game begins with a very brief summary of The Strogg, a space-faring people hooked on a glowing, orange resource called Stroyent. They want it, Earth inexplicably has a ton of it, and only the most generic organization we can muster is capable of defending our all-important supply of the resource we didn't even know we had.
The EDF (Earth Defense Force) are the sort of international peacekeepers always allied against a larger threat like giant invisible chainsaw laser beasts from beyond Glaxar IX. They're used to wave after wave of bio-mechanical invaders, right? Sure, I guess.
The gameplay is class-based, which, for the uninitiated, means that getting killed is less of a bummer and more of a chance to switch up your tactics when you redeploy. Both sides have their versions of five character classes: Field Ops, Engineer, Soldier, Covert Ops, and Medic.
All five classes possess different weapons and abilities, making them useful in their own ways but without the ability to win an entire mission by themselves.Read more ›
*8 vs 8 teams
*AI Bots, that are OK
*Auto aim works pretty well (maybe too well)
*5 playable classes with different abilities
*Lots of Vehicles including mechs
*Works great on System link with multiple consoles
*Some strategy elements, like building turrets
*AI Bots usually refuse orders
*Graphics aren't pretty
*Online multiplayer is dead
*Some customizable classes or weapons would be nice
*While you can build, you loose the RTS element by only being able to construct one thing at a time. This is the games biggest flaw, and could have made the game great
No local co-op,
No story to speak of.
The Verdict: A solid 3 stars ' ' '
This game could have been great, building strategic structures for defending or attacking the enemy. With more focus on the builders, making strategy as important as the shooting. “A story” so we have something to connect with, and you have to have local multiplayer co-op! With that being said I had a blast playing this game with my son on system link, it's a lot more fun than the mindless COD franchise if your playing with only 2 players. I hope someone expands on this idea, it has potential .
About the game:
You can play as two species, the GDF (Global Defense Force), and the invading Strogg.
It might seem that an alien species would be more powerful, but each has their advantages. The human medics are able to yank out their defibrillators and pop, their team mate is up, while the Strogg have to inject something into the fallen comrades body, which takes about 5 seconds. I think I'm talking a little too much but I'll continue writing about that after we get to the basics.
There are many classes you can choose from, such as the engineer, soldier, medic, spec ops, and field ops. I didn't know what that really meant at the time, so I'll explain. Field ops deploys artillery, shielding, orbital strikes/air strikes (depending on the race). The Spec ops snipes, deploys explosive recon cams to spy on the enemy, smoke grenades, teleporters and hacking tools. (I kind of jumbled all the equipment together of both GDF and Strogg, but I hope it's still helpful! :)
Like in all the other comments, the game does not have a storyline like in COD or Grand Theft Auto, but trust me when I say, whoo man! This game is worth the money! You just go in, complete the objective and kill, kill kill! :P Lol I ordered this game for my Xbox 360 because my disc went kaput. Anywho, read on for more detailed pros and cons for the Strogg and GDF!
Note: I am writing about my experiences with the PC, not the Xbox.Read more ›
