I found CNN's program to be the single most irresponsible presentation of the story and the "facts" as I've ever seen in my very long life... the final nail in the coffin of CNN's credibility. Another case, to paraphrase the late great Bill Hicks, of CNN telling us that "Everything's fine, America, go back to sleep. Oh look, American Idol is on!"
On the other hand I found Ms. Fiester's book to be one of the most factually riveting works on the assassination ever published, and I've read over 80 of them over the past five decades.
While a very academic and dense work, for it is grounded in forensics and science and facts, and not supposition... I couldn't put it down, I read it in three nights including the rereading of two chapters.
If someone read, for example, the chapter dealing with the fractures caused by the bullet entering the President's skull... and they can still maintain with a straight face that the shot came from behind... I very honestly would question their intellectual capacity to absorb and balance scientific fact. I would perhaps regard them as being intentionally delusional.
It's often said but this really IS a must read for the serious student of the JFK Assassination.
If you're a newly interested person in the JFK assassination or a seasoned researcher, _Enemy of the Truth: Myths, Forensics, and the Kennedy Assassination_ by Sherry Fiester is a must-have addition to your personal library. This is no ordinary book. Fiester, a retired, Certified Senior Crime-Scene Analyst with over 25 years of experience, has been court-certified as an expert in Crime Scene Investigation, Crime Scene Reconstruction, and Bloodstain Pattern Analysis in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida. In other words, she's a master of this field, the perfect person to write this book.
Fiester wrote for the novice, making her words attainable to anyone who reads them; you don't need to know anything about the JFK assassination to understand this book, making it the perfect "first book" on the assassination investigation. Fiester goes to great lengths to break down complicated analysis & crime scene investigation techniques, and she does so using today's state-of-the-arts tools, many of which (having not been available in 1963) shed new light on the murder investigation. She guides the reader step-by-step through the labyrinth of misinformation that has sprouted from the quagmire of rumor, speculation, conjecture, intentional false trails, and mishandled evidence in the assassination of our President. And she does it all in search of The Truth, not in search of self-gain.
The book is organized into eight chapters, each broken down into subsections making topics easy to locate. A handy "Table of Figures" follows the "Table of Contents."
The first chapter deals with the Dallas Police Department's collection of the evidence. Anyone well versed in the JFK assassination milieu knows that this one area alone has eaten up thousands upon thousands of hours of discussion in newsgroups and perhaps millions of combined hours in individual research endeavors. Fiester expertly makes sense of it in 57 pages.
A hotly debated issue gets tackled in Chapter Two-- the witnesses. Fiester takes on a topic never adequately covered before by any expert in the JFK assassination-- what the witnesses heard and saw, and most-importantly--why. This Chapter along with Chapter Four (dealing with witness perceptions as opposed to fact) encompasses a fascinating topic, one that could (I think) survive it's own book-length examination: Perception vs Reality.
Chapter Three covers the exhaustive authentication of Zapruder film frame 313 & the use of it in blood spatter analysis. Here, the reader can choose to "believe in" & cling to preconceived ideas or trust in & comprehend the science of the authentication process.
The final four chapters of the book delve into the forensics evidence of "the head shot." No other issue in the JFK assassination has been so rabidly debated or vociferously contested. Fiester's book is revolutionary in that not only does it address the topic, but also it does so in a way that is attainable to the every-day reader. In other words, you don't need to be a forensics expert or a medical professional to understand what Fiester is describing with skull fractures or trajectories. You won't need a degree from MIT to understand the proof Fiester expertly exhibits.
What Sherry Fiester proves in this book transforms the JFK assassination investigation forever. Indeed, this book should provide the needed impetus for our government to re-examine the evidence in this cold case via today's standards as opposed to the antiquated methodology applied in 1963.
Fifty years is long enough to not know the truth. Get _Enemy of the Truth: Myths, Forensics, and the Kennedy Assassination_ by Sherry Fiester and learn just what that truth of this assassination really looks like.
Fiester shines in her trajectory analysis and the explanations of what backspatter of blood means as per the JFK head shot. Her citations are of world renowned experts in their fields.
Anyone who wants to know where the sniper really was that fired the killing shot in Dealey Plaza must read this book.
