also it doesnt know when to stop charging the batteries it will just keep charging them on a timer so if you put in batteries at 75% charge it will overcharge them by 125% and make them get extremely hot dont attempt charging AAA's they will get so hot they could burn your fingers or melt the battery compartment.
it charges phone and the light works. but its horrible at charging any batteries you put in it.
it should only have two LED's since it charges in pairs of two which is somewhat misleading by the 4 LED's.
it should have at least voltage detection and temperature detection for finishing charge of the batteries. and they should be individually charged.
The charger has been tested and functions well as both a charger for my AA and AAA batteries.
As suggested by other buyers, please leave the door open on the charger while charging to assist in dissipating the heat from charging.
There is a plastic insert covering the battery connections during shipping, so be sure to remove this before attempting to charge batteries to test the unit. The spring load on the door is also very weak, will not open the door without assistance such as using your fingernail or pocket knife.(See photos).
In closing, the item does work as far as charging and supplying power...As long as you can put up with the mechanical shortcomings.
Therefore, my conclusion is that these do not make a good backup power source, because they must be constantly maintained at charge, or you risk the batteries going permanently dead.
As a charger, it does it's job well, no complaints. But as a power bank to at least my cellphone, it sometimes charges and other times just shuts itself off, 10 seconds into the charge. Why, no idea. It also doesn't seem to deliver the charge anywhere near the rate of good Li-ion charger.
NiCad batteries BTW are 2x heavier than Li-ion so this is not a power back you'd carry around town.
So for me at least the jury is out on whether this purchase was worth it or not.
