Style Name: Folding lantern Verified Purchase
This is a great, versatile product for camping trips, to keep in your car in case you're stuck on the side of the road at night, or as in my case, when the power goes out at home. And stays out for hours, since you live in a neighborhood where the power lines short out every time the wind blows.

For several years I have been using the heavy, clunky eight D battery-powered lanterns and this LED Folding Lantern is light years beyond them. Much lighter, 180 degree OR 360 degree lighting area, and you can still control the brightness. Also, operates off eight AA batteries instead of the older version's eight D-batteries.

Be warned though, upon purchasing, you must take out the existing batteries, leave out for 30 seconds, then put them back in, for the lantern to remain powered on without cutting off arbitrarily. Otherwise it stays in "store display mode" where you push the power button on the back, and it only stays lit up for about 10 seconds. Unfortunately it does not explain this in the directions, and I had to make a call to the customer service line to figure it out.

Style Name: Folding lantern Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Wow, this is a really nice little lantern! As stated in a few other reviews it's a tad pricey at 30 bucks, but as a person who went a few days without power & only candles until I scrounged up a generator can tell you I WISH I had this!
When I received the unit it came pre-loaded with 4 Energizer AA's and ready to go after you remove/re-install the batteries for 10 seconds to take it out of "try-me mode".(The instructions for the unit is packed inside the packaging itself, look for the pull tab).

The Lantern consists of 6 white LED's that shine into a diffused lens; this is what spreads out the light to a nice bright glow.
When the lens is flipped down it is a good task light, since it reflects off the white battery cover. When flipped up it gives you 360 degree light. (I uploaded some pictures) It comes with a little stand that fold out in the back to keep it standing.

If you don't want the full brightness of the lantern, if you press and hold the power button the light will dim down, when you let go it will stay at that level.

As I said, the unit comes pre-loaded with 4 batteries, you can put another 4 into it.
Adding batteries does NOT make the lantern brighter, (this light is really nice and bright as-is!) but its to give it the full estimated run-time of 100 hours.

I have used it a few times working in the basement, and this lit up the area where i was working - it was nice not trying to balance a flashlight! :)

UPDATE: It states that it's "water-resistant" well.... the other day it was accidentally left out in the yard and a few thunderstorms came through - was pretty well soaked when I came back. I turned it on and it worked fine!
I opened the battery case - and it was dry! I noticed a little rubber seal along the case so yeah.. it worked! (see pictures)

Style Name: 2 in 1 Light Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I do like this light, but I searched and searched and searched the packaging to find out why it only would light up for 10 seconds before turning off. I couldn't find anything. I searched online, to find out that all I had to do was take out the batteries for 10 seconds and then put them back in - viola! No more demo mode. It's not acceptable, though, that I had to search so hard to find out how to use the light properly. Once the demo mode is off, though, it functions just as promised.

First off, let me say the Energizer LED Folding 360 Area Lantern was a welcome replacement for the oil lanterns and candles we once used during power outages.

We tested this model on the late afternoon of Sunday, July 21, when Pacific Power had an equipment problem at a substation in our city, causing more than 4,500 homes to lose power for up to eight hours. Our home was one of the last to have power restored, so we had plenty of time to test the Energizer LED Folding 360 Area Lantern.

Initially, I loaded four AA batteries into the lantern but we switched to eight (as per the instructions) for maximum run time during the power outage. The smart dimming technology is fantastic. We could `tap' down the light intensity, allowing us to use the lantern at the dinner table without blinding anyone. With a couple more taps, my family could ramp up the light intensity for use down the hallway.

The caveat here is Energizer's decision to use plastic screws to hold the battery compartment. We stripped the screws on our first try, so now they fall out of place if the lantern is rotated too much to its front side. This isn't a problem so long as the textured, plastic lid is closed. The lantern has a durable, easy-grip handle and a retractable kick-stand that allows the product to sit upright on a table.

Eight AA batteries gave us all the light we needed during our eight-hour power outage. I haven't tested in for longer periods. If Energizer would come up with a better locking mechanism for the battery compartment, I would raise my rating by two stars. For now, this lantern is two screws shy of a five-star rating.

Rating: Three stars.
