However I tested rechargeables as I have been in situations (Hurricane Ike) with no wall socket power or auto power that lasted longer than the lithiums would in this charger. I have a solar battery recharger to recharge my batteries but when you have 3 weeks of clouds (recently), I would be SOL on recharging so I keep a lot of rechargeables ready to go. Lithiums are fine for some folks, I dont like the cost or the fact once you use them up that is it.
When I recharged the phone, I turned if off completly..ie dont swim upstream. Let the charger be able to work fully. Then I attached charger and pushed the on button. I noticed when it fully charged, my phone reacted with some beeps, but the charger doesnt turn off if it stil has energy. It will turn off if the batteries are depleted to below energy producing capacity, so I just kept it nearby and kept and eye on it.
Other features I like about this is the pocket compactness. Everything is together. No loose wires to keep up with. This is not to attach to your phone and put in your backpack or purse and wander around while its charging. The cord is a short built in cord and most effective when just layed down flat as shown in photo. The cap protects the cord. I take the cap off, clip it on the rear of the charger, slide the cover forward, flip it over, tap it in my palm (the batteries fall out), reload new batteries, slide it closed and good to go...protective cap still on bottom.
I also discovered you need to 1st discharge your new rechargeables and recharge them fully to get best results with this gadget.
Finally, this is for emergencies. NO electric power, NO solar power and your pre-loaded battery bank charger has been depleted. This is a fantastic backup.
Results of my test using 3 different rechargeables on my Samsung Galaxy II Skyrocket w/ OEM 3.7v Li-On 1850 mAh battery. In all three tests, I took my phone down to 0% or 5% battery capacity to begin each test:
Amazon Basics 1900 mAh1.2v rechargeables
0% to 82% (82% total in 2 hours and 47 min hrs, then quit)
Amazon Basics 2400 mAh1.2v rechargeables
5% to 100% (95% total in 2 hours)
Then, with same batteries a second time,
5%-11% (6% total in 10 min, then quit)
Eneloop 2450 mAh 1.2v rechargeables
5% to 100% (95% total in 1 hour and 25 min)
Then, with same batteries and second time,
82% to 99% (18% in 10 min, then quit)
Summary, depending on your phone battery, if you use good LSD batteries like above you probably will get your phone fully charged or close to it at least once, which could be a life saver when all other sources fail. As a side note, I also found interesting is that once it had squeezed all it could out of the batteries to recharge the phone, the batteries still had enough juice in them to run some regular size 1 and 2 battery flashlights for a couple hours.
I've got http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007MLHS2S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 instead, and that one works just fine with the same batteries.
As far as not fully charging some devices -- you cannot put a pint of power into a cup of battery. I don't see how this can be considered a fault of the device, unless you complain that an AA battery doesn't last as long as a car battery. It's always a compromise between size and charge. If only a 100% charge meets your needs, find one of these that holds 6+ batteries.
