It has been 30 years since I last purchased speakers. It was time to update and modernize the entertainment / audio system. I sold my old Denon gear and ADS monitor speakers. While shopping for a surround system I took notice of the Energy series speakers. I purchased the CF-70's and when I fired them, I up was smiling from ear to ear at the clarity and quality of the music. The range is excellent and they do not distort. When cranked up, the music does not seem loud, just more present and smooth. The lows are pumping and the highs are oh so sweet. I listen to a wide range of music and it all sounds incredible. As far as fronts for a home theater, these are rediculious. The music on TV shows and background sounds are easily heard. With the ESW C-10 sub woofer and center CC-10 and CB-5 rears, watching a dvd or blue ray is truely a movie theater experience. I could not be more please with the cf-70's. I highly reccommend them.

I liked them so much I picked up a pair (on sale) for my office. - KC

Owned a pair these speakers for a little over a month and am amazed at how well all varieties of music sound. Seeming like a "speaker break in period" is for real. The sound does improve with use. Enjoyed a number of good solid "middle of the road" towers from Infinity, Polk, Yamaha and vintage Advent over the years. IMHO, the Energy CF-70's are, by far, "head and shoulders" above the others in terms of clarity, soundstaging, presence and overall fullness. Some have reported the speakers as being too "bright." I disagree. Using Klipsch as a reference for "brightness," the Energy's are no where near as "in your face" as Klipsch. Clear and accurate, yes. Bright? Not quite. If you can find these for under about $300.00 each delivered you'll definately find the Energy CF-70's produce "audiophile sound on a budget!"

Without going into too much nerdy detail, these speakers are some of the best value for your money. Crisp highs without sounding tinny or soft; midrange and vocals pronounced and authoritative; bass response perfectly balanced and more capable than I could have expected, although for the full range of the spectrum you will of course need an independent subwoofer. These easily compete with and beat out towers that cost hundreds of dollars more (I wasted far too many hours in home theater comparison rooms and reading countless reviews...). I have these in a 15x20 room as part of a 5.2 system, and could not be happier. The soundstage is fantastic, and fills the entire room with sound that seemingly comes from different locations rather than all being broadcast from the same source. Can be bi-amped as well (using two amplified lines out from your receiver running to the same speaker), which is great considering most receivers now have 7 amplified channels (although must be specifically capable of bi-amping to capitalize on this), while most movies are still only encoded with 5. Shopping around might find a little better price, so give it a shot, but most definitely consider these speakers for any system you want to be proud of.

Almost forgot, a break in period of at least 20 hours was necessary to really get these going. Just like with any other speaker, they are a little stiff when brand new.

I just purchased a pair of Energy CF-70 speakers 3 months ago. I am thrilled at the difference in the complexity, and fullness of sound they exhibit compared to many of the popular speakers used today. I replaced my JBL ES 80s with these speakers.. The JBL are a fine speaker but can't compare to these new Energy speakers. You do have to play the speakers a couple of weeks to break them in. At first they sounded similar to most other speakers until they had been broken in. All of sudden , 2 speakers sounded like 6. The dispersion of sound is very noticable and blows away the other speakers. The high, mids, and bass are clear and balanced. It sounds like you are in a concert hall. If you wandered why these cost more than other comparable size speakers as I was, it is the fullness and dispersion of sound that make all the difference.. You need to hear to appreciate. You will hear instruments you never heard before in your musical library . Great speaker well worth this price and more. Tech info- these speakers are rated at 4 ohms. Most receiver/amps today are manufactured to power 8ohm speakers. No worries, I have used my middle level Yamaha(90 wpc) and had no problems with clipping or overheating. I have pushed the speakers with movies, many types of music and high volumes. The speakers performed perfectly.

Wow....I had high expectations which they have exceeded...after only a few minutes out of the box...they were at the big grin...listening to well recorded mix of soft R & B vocals...strings, sax and piano...all are so clean. Hip hop, rap , rock all sounds so good! They are very efficient so even with my new Denon amp making about 100W...they blow they can get very load but the bass stays tight and clean and highs stay so clean. I have a 12" NHT sub that I haven't had to fire up yet...they base is as strong as my definitive BP-8s with definitive sub and Harmon K. amp in a 18' x 24' great room.

The CF-70s just blow away the NHT that replaced in a 15' x 15' sitting room...they NHT sound like thin cans in comparison...the NHT's needed a sub even with music...went to my game room...

Warm detailed and they have a great sound stage without bipolar warm but so detailed...mid's and high's...without listener some Thiel's my friend own's. I liked the mids, highs, and sound stage of Martin Logan electrostatic speakers...but the bass comes from a standard driver(woofer) that didn't seem to me equal quality of sound as the electrostatic components... almost like they used a sub that didn't have the correct crossover frequency or used a cheap driver for the subs in each speaker.

I had listening to them at a big box store with a Pioneer amp sounded good....but the Denon and 8 ga. high grade true copper speaker wire ($1.30/ft (not monster filed with plastic instead of copper) and new gold plated banana plugs I got on Amazon.)

Only problem now I want another set in for other rooms...hard to move back from near perfection...not even going to experiment with bi-amping...don't know how they could get any least for my ear.
