Squealing and more excitement continued on throughout the entirety of the book.
Then I got to the end. These were my thoughts…
“What?! It’s over?! I can’t handle these cliffhangers!!! I need more and I need it now. I don’t care if I sound like a toddler throwing a tantrum. My heart can’t keep doing this. Please tell me there is more coming. I either need a part 2 for Cole and Dylan in Dylan’s POV or a 2nd book about one of the other club members. VanCleave would be preferable, then maybe Martinez.”
These are my requests. Now for my review…
I LOVED IT!!!!!
Side note while posting the review…This is book 2?! What is book 1?! Where is book 1?!
The characters are well developed and the writing flows smoothly. The main characters are the club Enforcer, Cole and an emergency nurse, Dylan. He is former military and his job it to bring anyone breaking the club rules back into line. He's a bit of a loner even among the brotherhood, until he meets nurse Dylan after meeting a knife in his last line of duty.
Dylan, who gives us a cute story of how she got her name, has run into a dry spell and finds herself intrigued by Cole. She soon finds herself involved in more than a few nights of fun, with a man that is very dangerous. The last thing either of them plan is to fall in love. I enjoyed the romance as it began to flow and build, Cole finds himself questioning his future while Dylan realizes that he has to be true to himself.
Now for the not so good ... the ending. I had really enjoyed the dynamic between Cole and Dylan, the club members, their interactions with each other and the outside world and the promise of action in defending their turf. The clubhouse is attacked and ... it ends. OK, I do understand this is a series but most readers are a little put off and some do not return to read anything else by the author because of these kinds of endings. I think when this happens readers miss out on some really good reads. I like to give a second chance so I will be looking for more by this author and keep my fingers crossed that it ends better.
Enforcer is the second in the Boneyard Brotherhood Series. I loved Overhaul (book1), but I really love this one! Amber truly found her stride with this story. As she writes, she paints such a vivid scene you can't help but feel your there. This book unfolds more of the backstory workings of the Brotherhood. Cole is the Enforcer for the club. He is badly injured and meets Dylan a nurse at the ER. Excellent chemistry between these two as well as banter! I love his inner dialogue he has going on! Once you start reading you just can't stop. Cole and Dylan's romance was woven perfectly through the story. Which is one of the reasons this book was such a success for me. You have the right balance of everything to keep you wanting more! And I do! Next book please! To me this is not a standalone. Granted as romance goes its about Cole and Dylan but the backstory just turned a corner! This is my fourth book by Amber Burns and truly my favorite. She just keeps getting better and better! Looking forward to the next!
I voluntilary received and read this ARC.
I have to start by saying that this book is not my cuppa tea. That being said, I was not greatly impressed by the book.
Amber Burns is a good writer. But for me, this was just a chore to get through. It wasn't a horrible book, but it.... Lacked.
The characters are meh. They are not very likeable, but they're not Hateable either. And the story tries to be a badass biker story, but all the scenes with the gang are vanilla. Even the intensely hot love scenes don't make this any better, and the ending of the story is weak at best.
The book needs to take some advice- go big or go home.
