Where do I start with Enjoy Your Stay, it's one of my most anticipated reads of 2014, see I loved Welcome To Sugartown, I absolutely adored every single second of it from Ana's sweet and sassy side, to her bestfriend Holly and her tell it how she see's it attitude to Elijah Cade's dirty mouth and protective alpha tendencies. So EYS was always going to have some big expectations to go with it, and Carmen Jenner didn't just deliver, she hit it right out of the park.
Enjoy Your Stay picks up not long after where WTS left off, Ana, Elijah, Holly and Jackson are sharing a home, they are a family, Holly is pregnant by her ex Cooper and still hasn't told him, he left her when he gave her the ultimatum that it was either him or Ana and Holly made her choice, and as heart broken as she was, she is doing the best with her situation.
Jackson Rowe, Ana's cousin and an ex fling of Holly's has situated himself firmly into Holly's life, he is just as distracting as he's always been, but now add to the mix pregnancy hormones and Holly can't seem to stay away.
I found Enjoy Your Stay a lot lighter read then Welcome To Sugartown, there is still drama, and plenty of heart stopping moments but it wasn't soul crushing the way WTS was, there were moments of downright pandemonium and moments where I was flipping pages begging the book gods for everything to be alright, but with these moments of darkness were broken by a ray of light, whether it be one of Holly's snarky caustic one liners or something wildly inappropriate from Jackson.Read more ›
Holly and Jackson share each others worst traits. They are stubborn, impetuous, selfish and neither is very good with expressing themselves in a way outside of the bedroom.
They are not the easiest characters to like, but they are also hard not to love a little. They are they type that make you laugh followed quickly by the sudden urge stab them in the neck.
They are flawed people with a messy love story, but in the end they work. They fit each other. They deserve each other. For better or worse, they belong to each other.
It is not the same dark emotional ride that Welcome To Sugartown was. It is not a Notebook type epic love story, it's raw, it's gritty and it is one hell of a ride.
Carmen conveys the message of this story loud and clear. The dialogue as well as the inner monologues couldn't have been written any better, they were flawless. This story is steamy, very actually, but at the same time it is so much more. Once the flames are reignited, the entire game changes. It's intense, fiery, and searing as this taboo, torrid love affair goes up in a smouldering blaze.
I loved the chemistry and banter between Jackson and Holly. It was heated and they were cheeky and for the life of me I couldn't stop smiling... until the angst hit me ten fold and then I was in my head having break down after break down. This book is risky, it goes there and takes you every step of the way right with the characters. You feel every emotion; the heartbreak and ache, the love and hate, the passion whether it's filled with misery or affection. These characters knocked each other's walls down and then ripped one another's hearts out.
It was ugly.
It was beautiful.
It was an ugly beautiful love story and you most definitely will enjoy your stay.
I like this author and in terms of form, this is a well written book. It's the substance of the story that did me in. I just can only take so much Teen Mom episodish behavior before I can't keep my last meal down.
I have no problem giving this author the benefit of the doubt and blaming my age for my inability to enjoy the utter dramatic shenanigans that was the relationship between Holly and Jackson. I'm 15 years older than the main characters in this story and everything about their behavior reminded me that aging (in the sense of maturing) ain't all bad.
There are pages upon pages of Holly and Jackson wanting each other, hating each other, screwing each other and then yelling at each other. Repeat. There is also Ethan and what's her face who LITERALLY screw all the time in every location. All. The. Time. Nobody in this book works or has any hobbies beyond screwing and arguing. I'm not one to judge. If I didn't have a job and I could find a commune of similarly situated individuals, I would be screwing and arguing with people all day too. Sadly, I have bills which force me to have a job and limit my screw/argue time. Similarly, my ability to enjoy characters engaged in that lifestyle has been snuffed out by a lifestyle of actual work and real world obligations.
Alas, as much as I was prepared to enjoy this book by this author who I do love, I just couldn't do it. I'm going with 3 stars instead of 2 because the writing is good and the sex is hot.
