I am so glad I picked up this book.
unlike other self reflecting books that are trying to guide you through a self discovery sequence in order to evaluate yourself, release, discover what is holding you back -- journal-- and come to some action plan to take back control of your life-- with this book you find yourself naturally evolving into your true self as you read this book.
when I read most self help books I feel the structure of a educated therapist who is teaching you out of their textbooks how to fix yourself. they sound great. however as I go through the book and it begins the process of questions .. ask yourself these 10 questions about yourself and post the answers on your bathroom mirror and when you look at it you'll be renewed. the Journaling and self reflective questions are great...but you feel the process--- you fear the process and 99% of the time I stop reading there and the book collects dust. because that is alot of work and we procrastinate... and put it off ..at least I do...and 99% of the time they are questions we have asked ourselves 1000 times---we know the answers to out sad stories and it doesn't really get us far...then we're on to the next book.
I'm not sure how to explain it because everyone's experience will be different and I don't want to spoil anyone's read, but as I read this book I just started making changes. her words-stories- the way she words things... it is like talking to a good friend who just makes you feel better about your life and gives you the confidence to start doing things to change the way you think and the way you give to the universe---the way you love yourself--- the way you live your everyday life as your true self... only your true self. and it doesn't make you do 100 exercises to find your true self... we know our true self- we know our dreams-- we know the way we want to live our lives...we just need to start letting those feelings get discovered to our consciousness. we need to allow those dreams and hopes and desires to be heard within our own selves. we need to meditate--- and allow ourselves to listen to ourselves.
and this book just does it! as I read...within the first 100 pages I was calling people I held grudges on for 20 years and forgiving them... releasing so many angry emotions I did not know we're weighing on me. I conquered fears...booked road trips that put me way outside my comfort zone... started saying hi to strangers..the list does on...all due to reading this book.. it gave me confidence... at the very least... I was taking action on my life without even realizing it...and the universe was happy! it felt balanced with me again.
but this book is amazing because it doesn't keep building up to the magic in chapter 12 that promises by the time you get there you'll be a whole new person.. as you read each and every page you are transgressing into your true self... the magic just evolves...and you begin to evolve as well.
I highly recommend this book and really hope this author keeps writing!
Ms. Gangas' honest memoir shows how admitting one's vulnerability & trusting the Inner Voice can ultimately lead to strength.
She accomplishes this with a memorable personal story, in your face humor, thoughtful questions, and spot-on quotations from prominent historical figures.
After her TM-induced transformation, she quickly realized just how inverted a world most of us tend to live in!
Inner must shape the Outer (our culture has this reversed, to its detriment) is her big message.
And this "ex-wild child" is the perfect messenger, having spent time on both sides of the divide - reminders of Augustine, St. Paul, Merton...
Ms. Gangas really maintains that there truly is no divide - that one can live in the Absolute & the Relative simultaneously!
Her gift of seeing with her soul (as well as her intellect) & stressing Inner growth prior to Outer achievement makes me think of 2 statements from
Christ: Mark 8:36 and Matt 6:33.
The synergy of her loving relationship with her spiritual Mother, the wisdom gleaned from a Religious Studies background, and her disciplined daily
meditation practice has created an honest, much-needed new voice for this Kardashian-infected society.
As she says, we all must grab our birthright!
