The Fatuzzos also have published the English translation of Giacomo Fatuzzo's award winning Italian war memoir: "The Death of the Julia Division - Memoirs of an Officer." This isn't a business book. It is a compelling true story that offers relevant insights to those in leadership positions struggling to survive. Note: Giacomo Fatuzzo was Ennio Fatuzzo's father.
Recently, the Fatuzzos have published a new book: "Creating New Superstars - A Guide to Businesses that Soar above the Sea of Normality." This is not your typical business book. It is a story about creating the future for business and humanity through technology. This understandable and compelling narrative provides insight into the chaotic forces changing everyone and everything. Ennio Fatuzzo is currently focusing his efforts on further investigating and communicating the potential impact of new technology breakthroughs.
And just now, the Fatuzzo's have published, in English, Giacomo Fatuzzo's novel “Two Souls in the Sun – A Twisted Love Story.” This tale is a beautifully described story of love, hate, obsession, and madness as told by a young Italian soldier isolated in the desert of colonial Northern Africa.

Blog postWhat is a genius? Genius is harder to define than intelligence or creativity. One definition: a person with “exceptional intellectual or creative power or other natural ability.” (Oxford dictionary) But great intellectual or other ability defines potential, not achievement. So, we prefer a more general concept: “Some minds are so exceptional that they change the world… But monumental intelligence on its own is no guarantee of monumental achievement…The truest measure of a genius is whether a4 years ago Read more

Blog postCreativity. It’s harder to define and measure than intelligence but is equally (or perhaps more) important. Why? Creativity occurs in many places and has many forms: imaginative solutions to everyday problems; life-changing breakthroughs in science, technology, and mathematics; masterpieces in literature and art.

Blog postWhat is human intelligence? How do you quantify it? These questions need to be addressed before discussing the connection between intelligence and the human brain.
So, first the definition. We all have our own ideas about what intelligence is. To keep things simple, we use the Encyclopaedia Britannica definition: “human intelligence is the mental quality that consists of the abilities to learn from experience, adapt to new situations, understand and handle abstract concepts, and use k4 years ago Read more -
Blog postIn previous posts we have introduced the topic of brain research, attempted to explain its importance, summarized global initiatives focused on brain research, and described some of the new tools and technologies being used in brain research. In this post, we provide an update on the progress (or lack thereof) being made as a result of the global initiatives.
First, we focus on the “US BRAIN Initiative” that was launched in the spring of 2013. Since then, Congress has appropriated sig4 years ago Read more -
Blog postInnovation. Technology breakthroughs. Interdisciplinary efforts. All of this is providing the opportunity for more scientific and comprehensive brain research. More specifically, the convergence of breakthroughs in biogenetics, nanotechnology, and neuroscience; coupled with advanced microelectronics and data processing; has led to new tools and devices for brain research and understanding. We highlight a few of these to show the possibilities.

Blog postIn the last few years, there has been an increased awareness of the importance of advanced brain research, and this has been accompanied by major investments by governments around the globe. So, who are the key players, and what are their goals? We start with our own country.
In support of broader brain research, on April 2, 2013 President Obama launched the so-called “BRAIN Initiative.” It stands for “Brain Research through Advancing Innovative Neuro-technologies.” Three government a4 years ago Read more -

Taken from Creating New Superstars by Carol and Ennio Fatuzzo (1)
In spite of the chaotic world around us, the risks involved in playing some types of games haven’t changed. For example, playing roulette, whether it is Russian roulette or the more civilized version in Monaco, is the same as it always has been. However, in today’s fast paced environment, the “game” of business has become a much more dangerous venture. Developing a new business or expanding5 years ago Read more -
Blog postA TRUE WAR STORY BY GIACOMO FATUZZO
In late 2014, we published the English translation of Giacomo Fatuzzo’s war memoir, “The Death of the Julia Division, Memoirs of an Officer.” This true story is the devastating chronicle of the destruction of the 3rd Alpine Division Julia in Italy’s war against Greece in 1940. It is an emotional, first-hand, day-by-day description of the challenges, the suffering endured, and the battles fought.

BACKGROUND
In our book “Creating New Superstars” (1) and in a previous blog, we focused on Big Data and Business. Now we take a brief look at the more personal side of Big Data: the reality, the promises, and the concerns.
As you must be aware, today vast quantities of data about people (including you) and their interactions with the outside world are being accumulated at unprecedented rates and stored in digital for5 years ago Read more

Superstars are those select companies that are continuing to grow exponentially, even though they are giants. How can others learn from their extreme success and the paths they have followed? How can potential new Superstars be identified as they begin to develop? What role do hyper-growth technologies play in the existence of Superstars?
While there is no single recipe for success, the book describes key common factors that led to the creation of specific Superstars - Genentech, Amgen, Gilead Sciences, Amazon and, of course, Apple. Yes, topics such as the act of creation and unconventional leadership are addressed, but the focus is on what the authors believe to be the most important ingredient—technology super platforms called "Launching Pads." The book describes three current Launching Pads (Microelectronics, the Internet, and Biogenetics) and shows how their symbiotic relationships have led to today’s Superstars.
Although understanding today’s Launching Pads and Superstars is interesting, it is not the objective of the book. Rather, the authors use this information to predict and describe emerging areas of technology and science that have the potential to be "breeding grounds" for new Launching Pads. This includes exploring the possible future impacts (good or bad) of these embryonic technologies on the business world, and by implication, on the human race.
Summing it all up, "Creating New Superstars" offers guidance to those who are looking to launch new businesses and to those who are already working in the trenches trying to imagine a brighter future for their company, and provides insight for job-seekers looking for exciting careers in high growth businesses and for those seeking to invest wisely in the future.
But is the young soldier’s love real or is it a creation of his mind? Where does the line exist between reality and fantasy, beauty and horror, love and hate? It is up to the reader to decide.
The author, Giacomo Fatuzzo, like the protagonist in his novel, was a young Italian officer posted to a remote location in Italian Libya in the 1920s. He wrote and published this novel in Libya, in Italian, in 1929. And then the book was lost in the sands of time and war. Ennio Fatuzzo, Giacomo’s son, has translated this timeless story into English to share the moving drama with modern day readers.
What are the consequences? Businesses will continue to experience financial crises, frequently unanticipated and often created by events outside of their control. How businesses can survive these crises and achieve stability in our turbulent world is the focus of “SURVIVAL IN THE SEA OF ECONOMIC CHAOS.”
To be more specific, business survival in times of crisis depends on leaders and their actions. What should these actions be, and what kind of leadership is needed? To answer these questions the book first explores possible leadership survival actions in three time frames: 1) Rapid - those first, defensive actions focused on financial damage control, 2) Intermediate – survival tactics to achieve interim financial stability, and 3) Longer term - actions directed towards business turnaround and sustainability, often involving strategic re-direction. Numerous examples and references are provided to illustrate key approaches for evaluating and choosing different possible actions. Then the book turns the spotlight on the leaders themselves and the key leadership elements needed for business survival in times of crisis. This is what the authors call “Dynamic Business Leadership”.
So the stage is set. Businesses are adrift in the treacherous sea of economic chaos. To find out more about steering them towards safe shores, we invite you to sail with us through the stormy business seas.
What is a living business plan? It is a dynamic but simple document customized for a particular business. It is specific enough to provide a roadmap that can be followed, but not so complex that those using it get lost in the details. It is a plan with adaptability built into the process for maintaining it in order to allow for rapid changes in course as roadblocks are encountered in today's changing world.
Who needs another business planning book? Think about it. Is your business healthy? Are you satisfied with the results in these difficult economic times? Are you keeping pace with your competitors? Is your business adaptable to the changing environment?
We don't have all of the answers, but we do provide new insights into an "old" topic that we hope will stimulate business leaders to consider new directions for business survival and growth in today's environment.
