Not as bad as I thought...

This is one of those low-budget B films with unknown actors that usually are boring and substandard. After renting this for a $1.99 I viewed it and was surprised. The quality of the print is poor (filmed on 16mm and transferred to 35mm) and the color (Eastmancolor, which is usually good) has faded and needs to be digitally restored but I did find it interesting enough to watch all of it. First, the story is so-so (religious cult demands human sacrifices; people have been disappearing and turning up dead) and cliché. Second, the writing was also so-so and some would be bored with it. The acting, however, was better than expected and I noted the sheriff, the doctor and the ranch/lodge owner were decent actors. The two ladies were attractive enough. Another thing that held my interest was the desert scenes, filmed in Southwest Texas near Big Bend National Park (Lajitas and Terlingua) which really would have benefited from a digital restoration. I won't give away the ending although it's predictable. So if you enjoy stories about devil cults, sacrifices, and people stranded in the desert, give it a try.

Enter the Devil is a scary cult classic about a town surrounded with devil worshipers/witches. An archaeologist and a deputy tries to solve a mystery of people getting killed one by one. Very scary film. Just don't know who are the ones practicing this cult. Kept in at the edge of my seat.

Pointless and stupid

Pointless. A number of grisly murders take place near an isolated mining camp and there are so-called Satanists afoot. Is there a connection? And where could we possibly find suspects? The correct answers are: Nope and beats me. There seems no logic here except for the random killing of an assortment of victims. There is one twist at the end that is probably telegraphed a mile away, but by then I was in such a stupor you could have hung up a neon sign and I'd have missed it. Mind-numbingly stupid.

Don't mess with a south Texas death cult!

I applaud Massacre Video for remastering this noble little b-movie to blu ray. I've had a fairly scratched, faded dvd copy, and to finally see the beautiful south Texas landscape as it was probably intended to look is a real treat. I'm not ashamed to admit that I enjoy this movie. The setting is beautiful, hunky mustachioed stuntman/actor David Cass, Sr. is great as the deputy sent to investigate a missing hiker, the score soars nicely in places, and the cave setting where the creepy robed "penitentes" dispatch their victims with what looks like a sharpened cross made out of two Duraflame starter logs is pretty awesome.
I have a soft spot for low-budget, indie films like this, and find it easy to forgive their weaknesses. This remaster version has a nice interview with a 77 year-old David Cass, Sr., and the disc also includes a pretty awful Bond-inspired porn loop the director made at some other point in the same location as "Enter the Devil." Random yes, but Massacre Video is not pretending to be Criterion, and Frank Q. Dobbs was no Cassavetes. But who cares!? I like this film anyways.

Very cool, weird regional horror flick from Massacre Video. Great to put on late at night, those with no patience should stick to Blumhouse movies and jump scares. Right up there with Devil's Rain, Race With The Devil, and City Of The Dead

Fun little time killer

This is a great little film if you want something that's light and entertaining. It's sort of the Soup and half Sandwich of the Horror movie industry. You get just enough to satisfy without getting weighed down by a long or involved story.

None of the actors have much experience. I think the woman who played the anthropologist was in a Star Trek episode and maybe had a few lines in an episode of Quincy. But they still all do a great job of portraying small town folk living in a village cursed by mysterious and grisly murders. They had a very natural, cinema verite thing going on.

This one has a little humor, a little horror a little action and some beautiful desert scenery. It's slow moving but builds nicely .
