The Covenant. The most elite, exclusive, well-secured BDSM club in Tampa. Co-owned by Ian, Devon, and Mitch Sawyer, they've spared no expense to make it the best of the best. And Mistress China, a/k/a Charlotte Roth, Domme and Whip Master there, is the crème de la crème, the embodiment of the club's standards. Petite and gorgeous, Charlotte isn't just a Whip Master. She's a seasoned parole officer. You don't mess with Mistress China! But lately Charlotte's life has become routine, almost boring. Her past has always kept the work, BDSM, and personal aspects of her life completely separate. But then she notices Mike Donovan, owner of the Irish pub, Donovan's and brother of Jake, another Whip Master at The Covenant. Both feel a spark of interest. Why not? Charlotte's beautiful. Mike's certainly no slouch himself. But Mike's vanilla, never felt any interest in BDSM. Charlotte needs BDSM like the very air she breathes. Can anyone say complicated? When Charlotte notices Mike's submissive tendencies, she takes a chance. Is it going to be easy? Umm...no! But is anything worthwhile? As Charlotte eases into talks with Mike, he surprises her time and again with his insightful questions. While it's far from easy for Mike to wrap his head around the fact that the tiny Domme wants him, and as a submissive, he slowly dips his toes into the BDSM pool. Are there doubts? Oh, so very many! Charlotte makes it very clear there will be a contract with an end date, little possibility of a renewal at the end, and absolutely no relationship beyond the BDSM. Mike's never had to separate his life into starkly demarcated sections that never intersect. But there's no doubt about the attraction between the two. Then Charlotte makes a fateful decision that could destroy everything. Mixing business with pleasure is a hard limit for Charlotte. So why is she doing it? When that decision endangers lives, exactly what will happen? For Mike, putting his life in the hands of a petite woman, regardless of her training and proficiency, comes at a cost. Can two completely opposite people, both with pasts that haunt them, both with seemingly nothing in common, find a way to move forward? Or will those differences prove to be too much? Regardless, it's clear that both may have gotten in so far over their heads there’s no chance for either. Will their seeming recklessness destroy the trust, faith, and friendship they've worked so hard to build?
Samantha Cole has a unique and authentic writing style. The military and police procedurals in each of her books are spot on. They should be with her experience in the law enforcement field. But it's her intensive and thorough research into the beautiful and captivating world of BDSM that grabs me every time. This book is full of unexpected twists and turns. Mike and Charlotte's relationship is so unusual and unexpected that I kept expecting it to implode every time Charlotte pushed Mike to take another step forward. The depth of emotion, connections, and growth of each character captured me and wouldn't let go. Honestly? I couldn't put the book down! I stayed up all night to finish it because I had to know how it ended. Predictable isn't something Samantha Cole does. She's a superb storyteller, and her books are riveting. It's evident from the caliber of her writing that she researches every aspect of the subject matter until she's as conversant with it as the experts with whom she consults. I've been hooked on her books since I first found her as an author. She's at the top of her game with this one. To give Entertaining Distraction anything less than five stars would (please excuse the pun) a crime! Congratulations, Ms. Cole. You've demonstrated your mastery of this genre once again.
One final note. Be an informed reader! This is an ADULT book. It contains explicit language, BDSM sexual scenes, and some violence. If you don't enjoy this genre, think hard before buying any book you know you won't enjoy. There are book synopses and reviews available on Goodreads and all booksellers' websites. Use these resources. DON'T LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW WHEN YOU KNOW YOU WON'T ENJOY THE BOOK. It's not fair to the author. She works hard to provide a quality work product. If you know you'll object to the book's content before you buy it, you're doing yourself and the author an extreme disservice.
Thanks for reading my review and happy reading!

About the Author
A proud member of Romance Writers of America (RWA), Samantha A. Cole is a retired policewoman and former paramedic who is thrilled to add award-winning author to her list of exciting careers. She has lived her entire life in the suburbs of New York City and is looking forward to becoming a snow-bird between New York and Florida someday. Her two fur-babies, Jinx and Bella, keep her company and remind their mom to take a break from writing every once in a while to go for a walk, which is the best way to deal with a stubborn case of writer's block. An avid reader since childhood, Samantha was often found with a book in hand and sometimes one in each. After being gifted with a stack of romance novels from her grandmother, her love affair with the genre began in her teens. Many years later, she discovered her love for writing stories was just as strong. Taking her life experiences and training, she strives to find the perfect mix of suspense and romance for her readers to enjoy. Her stand alone novel, The Friar, won the silver medal in the 2017 Readers' Favorite Awards in the Contemporary Romance genre out of more than 1000 entries. While the original planned stories for the Trident Security series have been completed, they have brought many opportunities for Samantha to spread her wings and bring her readers more characters and stories to love. Look for her new Trident Security Omega Team series, Doms of The Covenant Novella series, Blackhawk Security series, and more from the Malone Brothers series, in addition to several stand alone projects.

I have been waiting for Mistress China's story for so long I always knew it would be great but Samantha Cole has taken it to a new level. OMG the chemistry is off the chart between Mike and Charlotte, the love story is beautiful but what tore me apart and made this story so beautiful was the real respect and love Samantha gave to her characters. They were real people with real concerns, flaws and angst. There cares became mine as I read, I wanted to understand how Charlotte became how and who she was. This book was so much more than I imagined. It brought the whole family dynamic into play Jake, Mike and their mom's relationship so well done. The Trident Security Family and the loyalty they feel towards each other, how Charlotte let everyone know beforehand that Mike and her would be together. The respect and communication towards everyone was amazing. This book is a great addition to the books before it and will forever be one of my favorites for the love story is so inherent and strong between the main characters.

Another fabulous book from Samantha A Cole - a twelve star read - Charlotte and Mike - who'd'a thought it!!!

Samantha A Cole has created a world within our world. It is located in several warehouses that were once used by drug runners in Tampa. These days it houses Bossman with the Alpha and Omega Teams, support personnel, club members, friends and relatives, all of whom, in these stories, have become one large extended family. A family it's wonderful to visit with because of the sensitive way the author coaxes each character to tell their own story. This book is about Michael Donovan (yes, Jake's brother) and Charlotte Roth. parole officer aka Mistress China. We've seen enough of Mistress China in previous books to know that she has a soft centre - that is apparent whenever one of The Covenant subs is in trouble. We've met Mike Donovan often enough in the past to have learned a lot about his and Jake's troubled past. Read this fabulous book to discover how the Domme and the pub owner find each other and themselves.

Once again, I was completely taken in by the story of Charlotte..aka. Mistress China and Mike. Even though Jake is his brother, Mike in not in the lifestyle so he can't understand why he reacts to Charlotte the way he does. He's been interested in her but knows that she doesn't play or date anyone who isn't in the lifestyle. When he reacts to her like a submissive, Charlotte takes a chance and talks to him, even though she knows that if Mike comes to her, his brother Jake will not like it. Without giving to much away, Samantha Cole writes in such a way that her readers are introduced to a female Domme and a male submissive who has never understood what the fuss was about. He's about to learn and what a ride it is! Of course there is some danger along the way and things happen but will it help or hurt the budding relationship between Charlotte and Mike? And what is Jake going to think about his brother submitting to Charlotte? Let's just say that I am thrilled with this story and loved it all. The characters are sooooo believable and the story is very well written. We see people from the previous books and get to stay caught up in their lives. I hope Samantha Cole keeps writing because she has a HUGE fan in me and many others.

Mistress China/Charlotte was not looking to find a new submissive but when Michael displays a submissive nature, a plan is set in motion for a 30 day contract. Even with his brother as a Dom thinking that he is in over his head, Michael insists he needs to try the lifestyle. But will true feelings for more than a contract stop them both in their tracks or will the 30 day trial ends with them going their separate ways? With a beautiful storyline that finally allows the reader to witness the interaction of a female Domme and a male submissive this is a book that should not be missed.

No plot spoilers
No potential triggers
I get what some readers have said, in that this book doesn't have the same feel as others in the series, and I agree, it's because it's a Domme/sub situation. However, I don't think it detracts from the storyline, it's just different, I think this is only the second of it's kind I've come across in over five years of reading the genre. Obviously there are more out there and I've only come across them as part of a series, so although my reading experience in this case is limited I have to say I do think this is one of the best in the genre.
It takes all kinds to make the world turn. I enjoyed the book, Mike's self discovery and the sometimes comical events and conversations that unfold were entertaining, my comments negative comment would be that the Domme aspect was not what I expected from Mistress China.
There are BDSM themed sex scenes, there is some swearing and some violence, it's aimed at adults, if you don't like that kind of thing then don't buy the book.
I don't recall any grammatical or editorial errors.

Samantha A Cole scores again!

Just when you think you've read her best work, Samantha A Cole goes and blows her previous work to smithereens. Every book is different, original and fresh. You will never feel like one of her books has been churned out on a story production line. True to form, Entertaining Distraction is completely different to the previous Trident Series books. To say more would be writing spoilers. Mistress China ROCKS. Mike, who until now had a small supporting role, turns out to be a pretty solid person. And the bonus, of course, is that we get tons of Jake and Nick.
This series includes some scenes contain BDSM or aspects of it. The accuracy with which these scenes are written is astounding. SAC really does not leave a stone unturned to ensure the image portrayed is factual and free of mainstream prejudice/assumptions. In fact, in some cases, she goes out of her way to ensure she quashes such prejudice/assumptions.
All in all, there is nothing to criticise about this book except for the fact that the risk of addiction to this series and the author is astronomical.
BRAVO once again, Samantha A Cole.

Another wonderful story from Samantha's Doms of the covenant series. This is Mistress China's story. We see her attraction to Mike Donovan who is not in the BDSM lifestyle. How is that going to work?! Firstly she has to convince Mike that he is naturally submissive! Not wanting to give too much away their story has tender, erotic, humorous and action packed scenes that kept me engaged so much that I read this in one sitting. Appearances from our favourite characters from the Trident Security Series was the icing on the cake! It ended too soon ( my own fault!) and I can't wait for the author's next offering.

Yet another stunning story from Samantha A Cole. Mike and Charlotte’s tale complements the continuing theme of the Sexy Six Pack and their friends.
This is a well thought out, detailed story of a relationship in ‘the lifestyle’, explaining how Dommes and subs hook up and explore their wants and needs. It is everything I hoped it would be; Mike and Charlotte complete each other and the way they arrive at their HEA is just perfect. Bravo.
