As you can see from the book cover, clearly this has a menage storyline, and it won't disappoint on that score. Trust me. The book begins with an engaging but totally lusty introduction to two of our protagonists, Evie and Ross. They're clearly a couple who are hot for each other, but perhaps more importantly, are ready to take the final steps to seal their love. Watch out, though… there's danger up ahead. Sketchy events from Ross’s past have not been shared with Evie even though honesty has always been an essential component in their relationship- see, Ross thinks that matter is done and gone (literally), so no reason to bring it up. But, the secrets from the past do end up rearing their ugly heads, of course, impacting their future when revealed-in surprising ways. Unexpectedly, Kit, an old friend of Ross’s, comes back to town- he's there, ostensibly, to take care of an inheritance..but is that all? He is charismatic, endowed with bad-boy-drop your panties-sex god looks no woman can ignore- and he is a key part of those secrets. Evie feels an intense, unneasy attraction immediately after her surprising introduction to him. (Talk about “wet dreams”! Oh mama!) She's unsure exactly how to feel when she learns Kit will be their houseguest. Ross invited him to stay with them for an unspecified time because the house he inherited needs renovation. Being there disrupts the couple’s lives in the usual, expected ways, but there's more than meets the eye here. In some ways, Kit's very clear about his desires, but…is he playing games with them? And if not…what exactly is the end game meant to be? And...how could it ever work for the three of them to be together?!
This story, imho, is ultimately a very character driven one. To me, that means it delves into inner conflict of the characters- the enticements (and, to me, there are multiple enticements besides the obvious- Kit- and the burning question of “will they or they won't they”?) Ok, I definitely noticed and appreciated the sex, BUT,as I read, I’d find myself reflecting on the protagonists attitudes, their personal evolutions, revelations and decisions, and eventually how those affect the arc of the story. What do Evie, Ross and Kit each want- what stands in their way and what could they lose if they aren't able to resolve their issues successfully? There's a secondary storyline ( I call it Scandles in a Small Town) which adds another layer of tension and suspense, but for me the strength of Enticement is in the well written characters and the struggles they go through to define and reach their HEA.
So, the bottom line- this erotic menage story will satisfy your cravings for romance, hothothot chemistry between lovers, scandal, a little kink... it has everything! It’s a different kind of menage story, to my mind, though. It can be enjoyed on a surface level, but if you look deeper you'll see how Madelynne Ellis always gives us more…common universal truths with twists. Do it. Be enticed! I was!
Enticement is a steamy M/M/F ménage romance with a fabulous storyline and great characters. I never quite knew where the storyline was going, it was unpredictable with twists and turns that kept me on the edge of my seat. I read a lot of ménage romance books and they sometimes blur together as they often follow the same formula, but Enticement stood out from the crowd. Kit, Ross and Evie's relationship wasn't easy sailing - there were plenty of misunderstandings, secrets and jealousy that made the relationship feel realistic.
As I've come to expect from this author, the writing was great and felt effortless. I've read a few of Madelynne Ellis' books now, and this one is definitely my favourite. Her characters are unique, well rounded and you can relate to them and their lives.
Kit was a fascinating, larger than life character - and even when I didn't agree with his actions, I couldn't help liking him. The chemistry between all three main characters was electric, they were so hot together! I also enjoyed the element of mystery regarding Ross and Kit's past, and I liked the way that the author kept Evie and the reader guessing about this. Enticement is a thoroughly satisfying story that receives four and a half stars.
I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for a honest review.
