Most books of this genre seem to be intended to read through fairly quickly and to get you charged up to go out and "be a success". This book, on the other hand, is desgned to be worked through over a period of a year plus one week. An exercise or assignment is presented for each day of the week and the reader is encourged to buy a journal to record progress. If you are diligent enough to keep this up for a year, it seems to be that this is an approach that will work! It will cause us to thoroughly assimilate the ideas one small bite at a time.
I won't go through what is covered because a Kindle sample of the book is available on the Amazon web site. The comprehensive table of contents shows you this information.
My recommendation for using this book would be to read through it first to get an understand of what it covers. Then, get a journal/notebook and commit to going through the daily exercises. I think the best time to do the exercises is in the morning while you are planning your day. This will get you off to a good start. It's going to be very inportant to keep at it for thenfull year. I believe the author when he says that incorporating these actions into habits will make you successful!
I am retired and had a very successful business career, so I recognize what will work. This approach will work! I have recently started a small art business as a working artist and I plan to begin this program immediately. I believe it will make ampositive difference!
The format and presentation is interesting - it revolves around a daily action plan that is segmented by a weekly theme for a run of 53 weeks. For example - Week 1 starts off with daily doses of wisdom and self-reflective actions to help you contemplate and articulate you 'Passion and Purpose.' Week 18 is all about 'Procrastination Problems' and so forth. Each of the daily exercises run no more than half a page in length so if you utilize this book in its intended way - which is to take on 1 exercise per day - it's basically a 5 minute or so commitment per day.
Some of the actions are clever and insightful others are a bit lackluster but its the sheer variety of action points contained that will certainly help one improve not just their business chops but also some basic and essential principles of everyday living itself provided they stick to this daily regimen.
This book is not like the others.
Brett Power starts the book with a simple preface that tells the reader, the smal business owner this is going to take work and committment: A weekly and daily set of excercises that promote thinking. The chapters are 52 of them broken down to weeks. The weeks are then broken down into daily messages and introspection. No ego here but the reader's. No sales pitch to buy more to be better. This book is simple andrightto the point to empower and engage the entrpreneur. Well done. Now its time to get the work done.
This book is designed to be read on a daily basis. The book is divided into 53 weekly topics. Each weekly topic is then divided into 7 daily readings. Each daily reading consists of an affirmation or mantra, followed by a challenge. The challenge consists of an introductory sentence or two, followed by a question for the reader to answer or an exercise for the reader to complete.
It is no secret that starting a new business is both challenging and anxiety provoking. Starting a new business and making it successful can be an all-encompassing process. It is easy for the fledgling entrepreneur to be consumed by the process.
This book can help prevent this from happening. The purpose of this book is to make sure that while the entrepreneur is working in the business that they are also working on the business, as well as their inner self.
At the outset of the book, the author makes three promises to the reader:
1. The reader will get to know themselves better than ever before.
2. The reader’s business relationships will be stronger than ever.
3. The reader will be happier, more confident and a much better leader.
Obviously for the purpose of writing this review, I needed to read multiple weekly topics at a time and not complete the daily challenges. To maximize the value of this book to yourself, you should not read the book this way. Follow the author’s plan. But do skip around the weekly topics as your needs and wants dictate.
I found the book to offer great value, even with the way I read it. It will offer you even greater value if you read it as it was intended to be read by the author. AND do complete the daily challenges.
By all means make this book part of your entrepreneurial journey. At the end of 53 weeks, I believe you will be glad you did.
